Hi everyone

I am interested in training in acrylic nails so I could become mobile.
I've searched for courses near me (Bournemouth/Poole) and there are quite a few but I'm confused with them all. How much does an acrylic nail course cost normally? Are the online courses any good? And most of all is it worth it?

Thanks :)

I personally would steer clear of online courses as an initial choice as nail enhancements is something I feel a live instructor/tutor should be teaching and supervising so they can help you on the spot if you're doing something wrong, unsure of something, or picking up a bad habit. (Trust me when I say it is VERY easy to pick up a bad habit. Better to learn correctly from the very beginning so you won't end up spending money over wrecked acrylic brushes, or worse, not be able to do the work due to overexposure.)

Prices would vary. Be wary of cheap courses. They may not give you the quality training you're after, and you may be left feeling like you've only taken half a course because bits will be left out. It is essentially "you get what you pay for." And you may end up paying twice to learn just one thing. Go with courses taught by highly experienced tutors and instructors, and make sure they offer additional help or some sort of after course support because you WILL have questions along the way, and it's not fair for you to have to pay extra to sit through another course. They won't be cheap, but you'll leave learning exactly what you paid to learn for, and this is an investment to your career as a nail technician. Get good enough, and you will make more than that money invested into the training.

I think the Creative Beauty Group in Bournemouth would be a good option. Have a look at their website and give them a call. :)

Thank you for your reply it is very helpful. I am not going to do an online course now. I have had a look at the website you included in your post and it seems perfect, now to save some pennies! I would like to learn both acrylic and gel what would you suggest learning first?

This would really depend on your area and what you're more interested in taking on first. Both involve a good amount of dedication, perseverance, and practice, but thankfully there isn't a whole world of difference between the two. I think both are challenging in their own way. With acrylic, getting the correct ratio of liquid to powder can be pretty challenging because that determines how well you're able to work with it and its wear. And with gel, it's getting that gel to form the correct structure because it's fluid and can be fiddly at times. But both need excellent brush control.

I would go with acrylic first. It's the harder of the 2 in my opinion, but once you get it, learning gel will be a breeze.
