I have had a client come to me and get gel overlays but for whatever reason they didn't last (she told me a full set had come off witching a week and half and this has never happened to me with any of my other clients), so I had her in last night to offer her acrylic overlays instead as I am aware gel doesn't suit everyone.

As soon as I started removing 4 nails that were still on of gel she said her nail plate was hurting, mind you I'm nowhere near the nail plate at this point and I'm not filing off in the one area either, and even on the nails that had nothing on them (gel ovlays had fallen off these nails) she was saying her nail plate was sore on them also.

She was adiment she wanted acrylic overlays on them so I done them but was really gentle doing anything and then when I came to file them and buff them she was sore again.

Now I've had a message saying her nails are so sore even when she's not touching them!

Is she allergic to this product or what has gone wrong 0/ I don't know if she's a nail picker as in if she picked her last gel set off

Sounds like an allergic reaction. I'd suggest to send her do a check up. And perhaps find a hypoallergenic product?
Following this. I want to know if you'll find anything

Agree with asteropi, I'd remove it asap, and I wouldn't reapply until you know what is causing this. If it's an allergy, any further exposure is just going to make it worse.

What condition were the nails in prior to product application? If they were very thin and damaged that could also account for her discomfort.

I understand where you all are coming from but how can you go from having infills with the gel overlays absolutely fine and no problems, to all of a sudden them 'coming off' and now her nails are sore. I'm not so sure that it's an allergic reaction, could she have sore nail plates from picking her gel overlays off first?

I should add this client doesn't have a clue about nails what so ever, I put a wee offer up on my gel polish and she was texting me thinking this was great and I had to say to her she gets overlays not polish and then the 2 days after all her nails had fallen off, but she has never had any problems with the previous 2 infills on her nails?

Sorry if I sound a pain here but it just didn't seem like an allergic reaction as there was no product near her nails and her sore nails were a problem from the moment she walked through the door

Because you can become sensitive to something at any point in time, even things that you've used for weeks/months/years, you can suddenly develop an allergy to.

Regardless of what's causing it I think they need to be removed. If her nail plate was thin and damaged you would have noticed.
I doubt you'll be able to file them so I'd cut them down and soak them off.

Has she started taking any medication?

If you suspect she has picked off her gel then that would be why she's in pain and why I asked what condition her nails were in. I should think that's the most likely however as others have said it is perfectly possible for an allergy to suddenly occur out of the blue. In fact that's often how they work!

Sorry should have mentioned her nail plate was not thin nor damaged in anyway, she has now fessed up when I offered to take them off to have picked a few (but thought that would do no harm), then buffed them herself to get the bits that didn't come off AND also trying to break ice in the dog bowls outside, and now she says her nails feel fine!! Clients eh lol!
