Heyy, I've not long finished my training and someone has asked me to remove acrylics, is it better to continuously file the acrylic down or scrape it when soft using an orange stick/cuticle pusher?

A combination of both, shorten length, thin out the stress area, then put in soak. No metal tools for scraping, preferably let the acetone do the work and wipe with paper towel to remove the excess.

You can do as much damage with tools when removing as with an abrasive so patience is the key.

And don't forget that if you take the nail out of the acetone, the acrylic will harden up again!
