Hi, having read posts on this site for a little while this is my first thread and I know there are many experienced people out there who will be able to offer some advice. My natural nails are a bit hit and miss, the nail bed seems short [close to the finger tip] so I end up with a lot of white before there seems to be any length. They are also quite thin - patches of the white are sometimes almost transluscent. It takes a while to get them all to a length I'm happy with and then they start peeling in layers and I end up filing them all down. I try to use OPI Nail Envy and Avoplex oil on a regular basis and this does help. Now the not so good part - in February I had extensions put on for the first time [I wanted nice long nails for a special occasion], and I really, really know I shouldn't have done it but I went to a nail bar recommended by a friend of a friend and didn't do my homework! Although my nails 'look' good I'm not even sure whether they are gel or acrylic [I asked for gel]. One of them has lifted and I managed to soak it off; the nail underneath is ok although thinner and softer than it would normally be. They are now obviously growing out so I have buffed the edge a little and used OPI Ridge Filler to smooth things out and repainted them. Would you suggest I stick with them until they grow out completely or find a new salon, anyone recommend somewhere good in Gloucester?? who would be prepared to remove them if they themselves didn't apply them? Finally, when they have gone, would OPI Axxium Gel be good as an overlay or is there some alternative? Many thanks - all replies appreciated!!

Hi hun, I know we have some geeks in your area, but I can't for the life of me remember who they are, sorry I'm such a ditz.
Ok, if you don't get a Glouceter geek replying, you need to get your yellow pages out and start phoneing around.
You want to ask if they are using CND or NSI, Ezflow, or LeChat products, there are some more good ones, I just can't remember them all, so I've given you the ones I know are good.
Any of these should be perfectly happy to work on your nails.
I wouldn't advise you to have them removed, I would advise you to have them rebalanced. This is because, your own nails are quiet thin anyway and if the tech who put your current set on has been a bit rough with your natural nail, you might find that you are left with nails that won't support an enhansment and that will shred at the free edge.
Any of the above named trained techs can do a custom blend nail, this is where they match your natural nail colour (the pink bit) with an opac colour and bring it forward over the white of your nail to give you the look of a long nail bed.
You can have long ellegent nails I promise you (even if I can't spell the word:lol:)
These new hybred gel polishes are wonderful at helping clients to grow their own nails far longer then they ever thought they could but they are not as strong as a gel or liquid and powder nail.
Until you find a tech to help you, resist doing more then shorten the free edge of the nail, do use a good cuticle oil every day and unless they have lifted try to resist removing them your self. It is so easy to damage the natural nail underneath and as I'm sure you know, once it's damaged the only thing to do is let it grow out.
Lastly, a long term help. Holland and barret sell a health drink called Alo Vera. So long as the out side of the bottle says it's certified by the alovera council, it's a good one. One cap full into fruit juice or water a day will see an improvement in your hair, skin and nails. It's packed full of all the good things our bodies quiet often miss.
I hope this is of some help to you:hug:
