Hi all I'm new to this but I'm opening a beauty room within a hair salon on 1st November and I'm currently looking at Gerrard int products but obviously this has a huge outlay.what do people recommend including facial and chemical peel products, nails including gel polish, spray tanning, brows, lashes etc etc. Olympia has bought a lots of show offers which are very tempting but there's so much out there my head is going to explode!x

Are you an existing therapist? Do you have a client base? It's very easy to get caught up in great offers but you don't need to do everything today. If you're mainly doing nails at the moment, look at that first. I would consider a facial range but you don't have to buy everything at once. Ask about opening packages and what they offer in the future. What's their support like? Do you get a rep to visit? And so on.

Not sure if you mean new to the beauty business generally or you have an existing clientele and you're new to having your own salon?

Either way, Vic's advice as usual is spot on.

It's a usually better to start with brands that you're familiar with and then build up your range gradually rather than trying to do everything at once and tying up your money in stock.

Thank you for the info.I am a qualified therapist however have been out of the business for 7 years with children so have no clientbase.since writing this thread everything has fallen through :-( the salon owner was making more and more unreasonable demands whereby in the end I would be like her employee rather that it being my salon so I had to decline as i feared I wouldn't make any money.
I am going to look for another premises but in the meantime thank you for you comments. It's very easy to get carried away with buying lots of things when a rep talks to you.so I appreciate your advice.I have used big makes like dermalogica and elemis and guinot before and I have been told it would cost £2000 to set up by dermalogica and that just facials.

I want to open up a place using Elemis but I know I'll have to save like crazy! Do you know how much the opening order is for facials? Xx

It's worth contacting them directly as it changes. I know with some you have to have a minimum of 2 treatment rooms and 2 full time therapists etc.
