I’ve literally just done my god daughters hair, full head of hi lights.
I took all precautions to avoid any root glow or bleach seaping onto section underneath with cotton wool and foils in between and would you believe it we have root glow right on her parting!
I have been hairdressing for over 20 years and never had anything like this happen before this bad!
She’s a base 6/ 7 and this is her first set of hi lights with bleach so done very fine ones.
I’ve used purple shampoo to try and knock some of it out which has helped a little but it’s bugging me. Please help!
Thank you

What do you mean root glow? You would get that from tints not bleach

Where I have applied the bleach near to the root it’s gone a horrible orangey yellow colour then fades into the blonde. It’s strange. It’s never happened before?

Sounds like it hasn’t lifted enough? X

What colour house do you use? You're going to need more than purple shampoo if it's orange, I would tone with a cool 7 x

Did she have colour before? Root glow is where the roots are lighter/warmer than the ends from incorrectly analysing the hair

Do you mean the colour had bled onto her scalp? If this is the case - you could lightly weave out pieces in foil using her natural base tone of 6/7. This might break up the orangey colour you are unhappy with?

Do you have a picture? It might help explain better as I don't think root glow is the right term :)

To be honest, I’m a bit surprised that an experienced Hairdresser still uses cotton wool to stop foils bleeding and talks about root glow from bleach.
Maybe you could consider updating your training and take some more up to date colour classes to help your understanding?
After 20 years, this sort of colour service should be really simple for an experienced hairdresser and I’d be quite concerned if an experienced member of staff was struggling in this way.

Crikey ! I think the op was seeking a bit of advice , a pic would have been good to show exactly what went wrong !
I don’t think ‘ skill bashing ‘ is very helpful!

I would may be go in again through the problem areas with an ash or violet blond as a transition colour between her natural and her bleach. Then if you need to tone the root area with a similar violet or blue. I'm only really familiar with Wella so it might help to know what brand you use? Xx

This forum is for the benefit of trained professionals and not untrained diy-ers. I’d be very surprised that any hairdresser with 20years experience doesn’t know how to deal with orange roots post bleaching.
