Looking for advise on my Daughters hair if anyone has any.

She is mixed race and has extremely curly Afro hair.

It is very dry and I struggle to get a comb through it on a daily basis. A lot of the time it's in a ponytail but it has started breaking around the front as a result.

I use soft and lovely but don't find it does much.

If anyone has any advise it would be greatly appreciated.

Comb the conditioner through in the shower with a large tooth comb
Try a detangle spray, large tooth comb,
Coconut oil will add moisture
Maybe pleat it for bed

Hi I'm Afro trained & I also have mixed race children. Try motions on your daughters hair it's a oil moisturiser . Also do not wash the hair to often as this will dry the hair out more once a week is plenty or if you can leave it longer do so. ( I wash my kids every 2 weeks) try putting a bit of conditioner with some water in a spray bottle & every morning spray the hair & comb through with a wide tooth comb also never brush the hair dry. As the previous poster said use coconut oil to this stuff is magic. Where are you located?

I only wash it once a week minimum, I find it easyish to comb in the bath as I load it with conditioner, it's just the mornings in between.

I will get some coconut oil.

I'm in the Birmingham, UK

If you were nearer I would of said to bring her to me for plaiting. Detangle the hair before bed put into a couple of single plaits & take out in morning this way when you do her hair it should be more or less tangle free. If she has very dry ends I would suggest getting her hair trimmed & using the coconut oil on the mid length @ ends or you can mix the coconut oil into her shampoo equal amounts .

There is a thread going on in the hair forum about coconut oil & how to apply & the benefits it's worth taking a look.

I have afro hair, I too wash it every two weeks. Plait it for bed and condition with oil in the ends then it won't tangle so much overnight. Try get it plaited for a week or so in canerow etc sometimes rather than drawing it back in one as it will break the front if you do it too often.

If it's very dry then seal the ends once per week with a squirt of water and some oil. Do this one night before bed and plait it up. This will keep the ends from getting too dry. I would also say trim the very ends fairly regularly as well

Oh and try motions or olive oil moisturiser as an alternative to dark n lovely r whatever your using. Motions has more water in it so it won't be suitable for a hair (it dries my sons hair out he's mixed race) but trial and error for what works best.

Thank you for the replies, will try these ideas
