Hi I'm almost 21 years old, beauty therapy level 3 qualified. I am looking to get my own flat with my boyfriend but after working out my finances I will have pennies to spare each month.

I am starting to worry a little bit as I'm on quite high pay for working in a salon compared to most but still don't feel like I earn much. I do treatments outside of work also.

I have done extra training courses in spray tanning, eyelash extensions, hd like brows, booked to do a hair extension course and am looking to book a lash lift and acrylic course soon.

So basically I am just wondering if anyone has any 'money maker' tips that they can share e.g. any specific courses that brings a good chunk of money in?

All help appreciated, thank you x

Hi awx.. when you can't work more hours, you have to find a way to increase the value of your time. Doing lots of different treatments will keep you busy but there is a limit to how much you can earn. Concentrating on one treatment and building a reputation can allow you to charge more but it's not without risk. You have to find out which treatments bring in the money in your area. Semi-Permanent treatments are often a good bet because they more or less guarantee future work on top-ups and refreshers if you are good. Eyebrow microblading is really hot in this area (West London) right now with good treatments costing £400-£600. I've stopped doing lashes because the price is being driven down and I get as many brow clients as I am able to do through word of mouth. The price will gradually drop as more salons offer microblading and it costs quite a bit for good training but that would be my suggestion if you think there are enough potential clients in your area. Search microblading courses on google but make sure the training is accredited or you won't get insurance. I took 2 two day courses before I realised I was wasting my money :-(

If you try to offer everything, you will be spending ££££ in training, stock and equipment. Focus on one or two areas initially and build up your skills and reputation.

Thank you guys so much how much roughly is micro blading courses? I know it's different in different areas but what is a rough price as the ones I was finding you had to call up for prices. I think that may be where I'm going wrong trying to do too many things at once as I keep booking onto different course

There are not many microblading courses that are accredited in the UK yet. the dermagraph 5 day eyebrow microblading course costs about £3000 and I've seen 2 or 3 day courses from £1400 but there's no way you can learn all you need to get started in a couple of days and I'm not sure if the short courses are even accredited. It's not as easy as it looks but with lots of practice anyone can do it. One benefit is that you don't need huge amounts of kit or products, the main investment is on the training and your treatment area.

Oh I was unsure as I've never really looked into it.. thought their may be a lot of kit that was needed but thank you I'll have a look into it I appreciate it

Sorry if this sounds self-serving, but there's many apps out there that can help with the growth of your business. They can help keep track of your clients, their likes and dislikes, past appointment notes, etc. They also usually send out text or email notifications to help keep no-shows to a minimum. Some can be expensive, others can be quite affordable. Of course I'm going to suggest our app on mycutsapp.com, but there's many others out there that I'm sure can fit your needs. :)
