So my 11 year old keeps pointing out the hairs on her arms & saying a lot of the other girls shave them in her class. Now I remember at that age doing it a couple of times & regretting it big time. She's got light coloured hairs so personally I don't see the need for her to remove it, she doesn't yet shave her legs although will start this summer.

I could understand any hair removal if it was dark & she felt self conscious or kids were bullying, but I figured if she still felt that strongly about it when she's older she'd be better to wax.
What are other mommies thoughts? She's my oldest of four, have I missed something is this the norm?
Thanks
Kt

I remeber doing this when I was around her age. My hair was so fair but I felt very self conscious of it. I stopped after two times I think but now my arm hair is definitely a few shades darker and thicker than it was before I was silly.

I was exactly the same & wished I had never done it.
I just wanted to check in 17 years, times haven't changed & it's not the done thing now. She listed 8 girls in her class, so I was concerned. It's more of a peer pressure thing than her actually being overly concerned with the hair I believe.
Thanks :)

I was 10 weeks premature and was born with hairy arms so dark I got bullied and called monkey etc... I laugh at it now but at the time it upset me so I shaved them when I was at primary school even now I still do it not as often tho xx

She could get them threaded, no damage done to the skin at all and so much better than shaving :)

I was the exact same very blond but hairy arms. My mam eventually tried immac the first time the hair was wiped clean off and the second time we didn't leave it in long enough so there was still some hair left, after that I never noticed the hair anymore so if your going to do something I would say a depilatory cream HTH

I'm very fair and I used to shave my arms for the same reason when I was young. Totally regret it now as they've doubled in thickness and so much darker 😞 ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1393691881.558310.jpg

I guess you are lucky that she is talking to you about this. My daughter shaved hers without my knowledge at about 13. I could have throttled her!

I'm doing a level 2 beauty at college and a lot of the students there wax their arms. I would encourage her to thread, wax or Immac them if that it what she wants. No shaving though

I would say tell her to wax if she still feels like it in a year's time but no shaving. If she's getting bullied then just do it. It's not worth the heartache...x

If they're blonde I say leave them alone. Tell her the boys will make fun of her prickly arms.

If they were dark I'd bleach them as it lasts for months.

I have mine waxed in the winter as they get really long and black. In the summer they get bleached by the sun so I leave them

Thank you for everyone's responses!

I'm incredibly lucky that we have a close relationship currently, (I know it can change with girls like a flick of a switch) & shes talked to me about this, rather than swiping my razor. I'd hate to enforce a rule upon her by just being out of touch or making her different from the majority especially if it's something that genuinely does concern her.
Thankfully her hairs are blonde & not overly long & she's admitted she's not bothered it's more just going along with the crowd, they were doing it, so she assumed she should.
Was so nice to hear others views! :)
