Hi guys,

Ive been suffering with a really sore shoulder since saturday, and it got worse today whilst at work so have been to see the doc. He says ive got a repetitve strain injury, ok then, so it will just go away wont it? He says ive got to rest between clients, like yes ive got all the time in the world to do that havent i ? er NO!
So what can i do? I dont want it to get any worse, ive got a prescription for some anti imflammetry gel stuff, but what else can i do? Im even considering getting an e-file and going on the neccessary courses to learn how to use? And i never liked them e-files, maybe ive been mis-informed about them, i dont know, but they scare me!! Oh well, any advice greatly received.....

Michelle xx

hey babe

sorry to hear about your RSI-

with regards to E files I get where your coming from they petrify me I bought one and havnt used it- but I do know alot of people who do I think its just a case of good training so go for it!!!

I struggle with very bad neck and shoulders anyways so sitting at a nail desk all day dosnt help I go to a fab remedial massuer he really helps maybe you should give that a try too.

Hey nikki that sounds a good idea, ill look out for a hunky one! No joking aside, its a pain in the backside, im too busy to be having dodgy shoulders!. But i guess all the long days ive worked over the past year are catching up with me, so ive got to do something, so i think ill look into getting an e-file..

Hya

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, keep applying ice packs it will ease the inflamation. As for the drills, I know if you purchase one from NSI thet will supply free training on how to use it correctly.
Hope this helps and hope the shoulder heals

Hi,
I thought RSI was more usual in hands, wrist and arms. If you've got tension in the shoulder massage may well help, as might heat. Try incorporating some stretches into your daily routine so you don't end up set in the same position and get someone to look at the way you sit and see if there is anything you can do to make yourself more comfortable.

Thanks for all the advice guys, ill look into the NSI e-file. I am seriously going to make time between each client to have 5 mins out, just to get up and have a stretch, and im also going to keep changin my position so that i dont sit in the same position for too long.

I get this in the shoulder as well and see a physio every few weeks just toease teh pain when it starts but you do need to take a rest initially and take the anti-inflamatries. make sure you shake your arm out after evey client and evey half hr or so flex and stretch your limb and shoulders.

Otherwise you could end up havin to give up your job like i did ( i worked for the bank inputing numbers all day) had to leave a 2 yr gap before i could return but the jobwasnt the same, nails tens o agravate it if i dont sit properly and stretch.

I suffer with my shoulders, wrists and arms....

Sport physio helps me..it is a bit ouch, oooh, but after all the crunching etc. it feels sooo good!

i also suffer with this - all i did was to change my position frequently during a nail service - and i have to admit that it has got better - i find sitting with your lower back arched inwards, and your shoulders back helps (well it helped me anyway)

Sorry to hear your news Michelle ~ my Mum had RSI/ Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and had to have an operation. SO please take care of yourself, some great advice in the replies

Oh Michelle - You do have to rest between clients and do a couple of stretches otherwise it will just get worse. Try and have even 10 minute breaks between clients. Having a wee break and a stretch will enable you to work better too.

I know what you mean about e-files but I do think under the circumstances it is work investigating.

Good luck honey and keep us posted

I am sure i read somewhere on here that efiles can agravte the situation as the vibration moves through th earms and shoulders.

Can't swear to it but take a nose about.

hpe you feel a little better soon.

hun, i dont know how it feels as i dont have it but please try to follow the docs advice, sending you hugs:hug:

Scattyfox beat me to that.....I have heard that too....

It was a CTD that actually got me in to the nail industry!!....I had golfers elbow which resulted in an operation and then eventually an ill health retiral, resulting in my training to be a nail tech....

I am very careful how I work as really I will never be fully fit...but I can manage the situation now and very rarely get to the stage where I need anti inflammatorys .......I tried to stretch between clients....and when I started to have problems with my neck and shoulder I invested in a better chair and I visited a Chiropractor on a regular basis.....I was never going to go through what I did with my elbow again.....!!

Do whatever you have to do to keep yourself fit and working!...but check out the e-file vibration situation before you spend any money......good luck.

Oooh Sweetie, you really need to take care of yourself.

Im not sure who you trained with but maybe take a look at a further training course and whilst improving your skills take on board any working methods that are different from your own.

Someone once told me that if you start to feel aches and pains then it wont get better unless you change the way you work.

With that I lead on to the E-File. The best thing since sliced bread as far as Im concerned and I havent had any pains in over ten years since Ive been using an E-File. If your trained correctly then there is absolutely nothing to fear.

Now Im not using their products at the moment, but Im pretty impressed by the E-File offer at Young Nails. They include FREE training and drill bits with every purchase, They sell one the best E-Files on the market the MT20 (v. v. smooth, slim. light and a smart built in thingy thats similar to "cruise control", how cool is that?)

What's more Michelle, you could do a refresher one 2 one course with them and they include E-File training with the course.

I have to say that the guy at YN is the brother of Jane who trained me and I can certainly vouch for his experience (been in the biz for twenty years or so! and has a couple of salons himself) Definately worth checking out if your looking at investing in the E-File and Im sure you'll soon be feeling right as rain if you decide to go with it
Good Luck!
