Hi everyone I know there are a few threads on here on how to cope with bitten nails and extensions and after watching countless videos (young nails and naio about 10 times each) I attempted to do my cousins bitten nails today and it was an epic fail. I followed all the steps and when it came to filing into shape and buffing they then fell off!! Wondering what to do now? I know I can't use tips and I tried sculpting by using a pink l&p to extend the nail bed then adding on the white. And all looked good til the filing! Just wondering if anyone had any tips really? I used nail harmony fusion l&p products from start to finish! Luckily my cousin was a guinea pig and I wasn't charging her as I was uncertain if it would work. What do I do now if I get a bitten nail client? Offer only manicures or gel polish till their nails grow?

Personally, I would advise a gel polish until the client had sufficient nails to support an enhancement!

Ok thank you. I will suggest, I have also suggested they try and stop biting for two weeks but I asked this before I saw her and she failed (a lot easier said than done) also my cousin works in a maternity ward so she can't have normal colourful polish. Just feel a bit deflated now really, as when she originally asked me ages ago I said no because the tips would cover half her nail and not look good, then discovered the young nails tutorial and said there may be hope but it was quickly dampened today when the nail came off!

Sorry for the short reply but just thought I'd encourage you a bit. I had a call from a lady whose nails I did 2 weeks ago. She had badly bitten nails and the tips took aloof tailoring. I warned her that her nails may not last due to how bad her nails were bitten (she had a ceremony and was only bothered that they last the night lol) she said apart from 2 they are all fine! It's taken me allot of watching videos to practice to do this and even then I took 3 hours yo do them. You will get there keep trying.
Ok so that was a long reply :D

Bitten nails are the bane of every nail tech

My advise is don't give up and try again, do really good prep that's so mportant, keep them (I do sculpts) very short just to the end if the finger, do them in clear and paint over so not worrying about pink and white and extending the nail bed. I'm doing a set on Thursday for a bridesmaid and I explained how she must be careful, how they'll be short etc etc and she is happy and knows that if she want to keep them I have advised 7 day checks for first few weeks, then 10 days then see how goes, as more likely too be probs from picking, unconsious nibbling etc etc.

Don't give up hun :)

I'm a newly qualified as well but I have done a few nail biter and they r ok for a couple of week .on some its 1week ,others two weeks and some days . I use half well tips , blend them and then put white . I don't charge full price yet . i seen a girl in tesco today with bitten nail and I asked her if I could practise on her and she agreed( free )as I just want more and more practise . Just keep extension very short . As I'm not very experienced sm1with experience can help u more .i find tips easy rather sculpting as there is no free edge hthx

Not every tech is bothered by nail biters, I quite like doing them. Yes they are a little more work tailoring but the clients are always so pleased to have 'normal' looking nails.

I myself WAS a horrific biter, I've been chomp free for a month and have nails now - I used to bite nail so far up that i'd only have millimetres of nail plate.. My poor sore nail beds. I've now got totally flat or turning up thin free edge.

When I do biters I always tailor full well natural tips and carefully blend before adding the overlay.
I find on horrific biters blended tips work better than sculpt until they have a free edge.
Always remind clients that it's possible they won't last as long as non biters, their nail is in constant state of repair so I've found biters nails are more oily, thin, flakey, break easy and being a picker, nibbler, sleep chomper etc are going to cause the nails to lift and need repairs or replacing sooner.

Where did they fall off? Did the whole thing just pop off or just the tips? If you were using reverse method and the white broke off, most likely there wasn't much of a contact area between the pink and white. After you form the pink, make sure that white is pressed right up into the pink. It's ok of you get some white over your pink because you'll be buffing that off during finishing. Keep trying. Transforming a nail biter's hands is very satisfying once you get the hang of it.

Dont give up! I tailor the tips to the shorter nails, and always tell the naughty biters that their nails may only last a week but to keep having regular appointments. I had a client 3 weeks ago worse bitten nails ive seen and to my surprise all 10 are still on! Takes time, patience and practice. :) xx

Have you considered getting a one to one training sessionat all? I think watching videos and reading tutorials is absolutely fab up to a point but it really helps to have someone look at your technique and show you what you can do a bit differently to get the best result :)

Yes I have contacted nail harmony about doing some training with them for a one to one with my distributor to see if that will help. I did make sure there was some white covering the pink and literally I have finished buffing the top into smooth shape and the tip and most of the acrylic just popped off. I don't know if its because she was sweaty I was sweaty too, the heat and stuff. But maybe ill ask to do it again and try
