Hi

Looking for some advice, I would like to do a gel nail course but would like to look a little more into it

I no it will take a while to build up a clientele to be benefiting from doing the course

looking for peoples experiences on how long it took them and tips on how to build up your clientele

Hey :)

I'm a mobile beauty therapist (used to work in salons before). When I started on my own it was a daunting experience but all so worth it now.

Here's some tips;
• Set up a Facebook page and make sure your active on it. ( don't set it up and post every other week you need to post regular)
•introductory offers
•competitions every month or every other month
• get some business cards and hand them in to local hairdressers. I know some shops have bulletin boards could ask to put some in there.
•could round up some friends and so a leaflet drop in your area
•get some gift vouchers and donate them to raffle prizes etc.

Hope this helps :)

Oh and good luck! [emoji1]

Hi Megan

thank you for your advice

Its something I have wanted to do since studying beauty therapy after leaving school, but I keep thinking about the out lay of the training then struggling to find clientele (think I just need to give it a go, and be patient with building up the clientele) :)

I've had enough in my current job and have a young daughter so would be able to work around her a little bit more

The outlay is a lot at first, but after training when buying all your products don't feel you need to buy all the colours at once! Slowly build up as it is expensive. Pretty sure I started off with just 6 CND shellac colours. If you have your basics like couple of pink, reds etc and pink and white for French.

Also if our eligible you can get grants through certain schemes to help with training.

That's defo the brill part of working for yourself you can pick your own hours to suit!

ow thank you I will have to check out about the grant

I like the idea that I can be a bit more flexible with working hours, will probably offer nail service as going to peoples home as I cant current work from home hoping people will prefer to be in the comfort of there own home

if you don't mind me asking how long have you been doing nails and what brands do you use ?

Yeah defo check it out!

People love you coming to their home! Especially people with small children.

Think it's 4 and a half years now? Will be two years on my own in October :)!

I personally use CND shellac since working for myself. Currently looking to bring in another brand as well.

Yeah hopefully it will help me a bit with building up a clientele as wouldn't say there are so many people that will come to you

Quite a while then

I looked into doing CND course but don't think they have a wide range of colours. I've looked into NSI and IBD

IBD have a massive range of colours and don't seem to badly priced either

You will get there eventually :)

Yeah I love CND but I am feeling the same now all the colours are too similar, they have lovely additives and pigments which can change any nail colour and you can layer them as well.
I am looking in to IBD atm will maybe order a few :)!

Gemmae31 you also will need a lot of patience and a positive attitude. I am new - went mobile working for myself (ok, part time) in March and it is extremely slow. Done all of the necessary steps described above and still only 1 regular and perhaps couple of one offs. I am working with CND shellac. Can be daunting at times especially with a competition around charging half of what I am charging but trying to have a positive attitude about it.

Good luck!
