hi again! just been reading the threads on spray tanning and I have just purchased the california tan spray gun machine, I have all the information on how to use it and have only tried it once and seemed ok, but because I was not given a demo do you think if I practice on models I would be ok to advertise once I feel confident, does anyone out there own a similar machine and do you have any tips? I was given barrier cream for the areas like nails etc would you apply this with your fingers or wear gloves or ask the client to apply it?

hi sundial,

i have the airbrush so its a little different so not really much help as far as application goes i think. Was training not provided when you bought it?
If not, try and do as many bodies as you can....once i had done say about 10 -15 people i felt confident that i was doing it OK and better coverage.
What i do is always start at the same place and work methodically around the body keeping my airbrush moving constantly. Carefull with the handsand palm athat they don't become to dark. Have the clients palms facing away from you at all times or tell them to make a fist.

As for barrier cream i always apply it myself this way i know it is being applied where i want it to be. i don't where gloves either, but this is only personal preference.

You will need to put barrier cream on
  • the palms and knuckles of the hands
  • Elbows
  • knees
  • Heels and i always rub what is left on my hands across the tops of the feet and over the hands just to make sure they are not too dark.
I use Su Do so don't need to apply it over eyebrows as it doesn't stick to hair, not too sure about the others though. When sprayingthe face get the client to breathe out as you work across the face, this stops them inhaling more thatn they need to.

Hope this helps

let us know how you get on.

Thanks for that, this will help a lot, going to print it off and keep it by my side until I feel confident, going to start practicing this week so I will let you know how I get on, there is a salon near me that uses the same machine so I may have a tan done there to see how they do it. xx
