After more Googling I don't think I should ignore my test anymore (thank goodness the internet wasn't around back then!).....and make sure you don't too

When I was about 23 I kept on going to the Doc with symptoms in the regions....they kept on telling me there was nothing wrong....until I saw a locum lady doctor who examined me and could see straight away all was not good....she took a smear...I think I'd had one in the past, results came back as CIN3, I think full blown cancer is CIN5.....I was sent for colposcopy straight away and was in for a cone biopsy within weeks to remove the cells and part of my cervix by surgery....I was too far gone for laser...

I had to have regular 6 monthly smears after that for 3 years ...I was lucky and I've had loads of reminders about my smear...I've just reminded myself why I must go.

Blimey...I have just Googled CIN3 and I remember at the time they told me it was carcinoma in situ...no wonder they had me in so quick!

yes this is what I have CIN3 . im still confused by it all, the hospital called it severe skyro, something,
im not googling anymore as im scaring myself :smack:

I hope all you geeks are going to be making appointments tomorrow:idea:xx

WOW:eek:

Hoping for all the best for you!!

I'm a bad girl :o

The last time I saw a doctor was for my checkup following the birth of my youngest - 3.5yrs ago.

My only excuse is that where I now live, there is a doctor shortage and NONE are taking new patients:irked: well... unless you count dentists
I would have to go into the city, and find one there.... a 2hr bus & underground train ride to them, and then 2hrs home again.:irked:

Not a good excuse :o I know.

After this wake-up call, I will make calls tomorrow and see what can be done,
Up until now I had been waiting to have my license and my own car, to get my "medical" needs brought up to date. But with health, we really shouldn't wait, should we?

Thanks for the smack upside the back of the head.
I needed it!

Hoping for all the best for you.
Giant hugs

Kelly hope you are ok xx
I can't believe so many of us put this simple thing off.. I have as well pushed it a bit and not made the call as soon as the reminder has come in the post..but I don't know why .. the nurses do it at my doctors and are so nice and give a full check up while they are at it .. blood pressure/ weight /****s etc

I put off my last one after having my little man and when i did go she looked at my notes and laughed I'd had so many tests/ ops/ ivf she didn't know why on earth I'd be worried about her 'having alook'.. at that moment I wasn't and its not something I'll ever put off again .. xx

Victoria we are more worried about our teeth as there are no dentist's here .. doc 's are no prop ..

All of our doc's are leaving the province and/or country as they're not paid enough here. Waiting times at hospitals are RIDICULOUS...
Finding ANY KIND of doctor taking on new patients is a nightmare unto itself.
EVEN WITH a referral. it's absolutely TERRIBLE!!
We're even understaffed for nurses as well, for the same reasons: CRAP PAY

No Huni, there isn't an automatic call letter. Once you have had your first smear test arranged by you, then usually further smears are done on a recall. So get tested to get on that list. Should you make an appointment? yep deffo, any woman/girl/ that is sexually active should go for a smear test.... Go girl go...... love Ruth xxx

Just bumping up this thread it is so important for women to have this simple test done, it can simply save your life !xx

My sister had to have a hystroectomy because of this about 9yrs ago..

because of all the probs she had on the run up and the symptoms that I was showing they gave me the same about 6yrs ago (no cemo thank god),

I for one had never had a smear and wish I had.. although my hsytorectomy was the best thing that i had ever done.. never had any probs since.

But afterwards don,t think you don,t get the cupboard door slaming thing.. cos you do:lol: so far I have had 2 new kitchens:eek:

One of my best mates had cin3 and had to have laser treatment twice, good news she is all clear and has been for a year and is also expecting her first baby. It can be treated hun sending you a hug:hug:

I too used to believe thet cervical cancer was for old women, that is until 2 years ago at 31 I was diagnosed with it . I had avoided going for a smear test for an amazing 5 years !!!! then when I moved house had to have one done and ended up with lots of trips to hospital ant a further year of treatment but I have now been given the all clear and will never miss an appointment again !I also gave up smoking at the same time as I decided the kids were far more important than a *** !!!

Hiya Geeks

only a couple of months ago i was shocked at the news in the B'ham mail.
A old work pal died from this complaint
i was devastated to read of the loss of this truly sweet young girl.

I can not get over this news, how must her family be feeling

She was one of the nicest girls i ever worked with, and ive worked along side some real troopers in my time....but this young girl was an ANGEL.

It isn't the most dignified thing to have done and none of us enjoy it but it could be a lifesaver! The nurses do it every day 100s of times a day!
I am also young, well i think so, at 28! I also had abnormalities in my last 3 smears so after the last I was referred to hospital for a colposcopy! While there the Dr found something she wanted to check further, so, i ended up having a biopsy!!!!! Cancer immediatley pings in your mind! I am awaiting results, 4 wks tomorrow so no news is good news. Or so they say! Fingers crossed!

Good luck

Umm funny how I came across this post perhaps I better book mine up, was sent a reminder weeks ago but decided I wasn't going. It's not the embarassment that bothers me its the pain and an old memory of a stupid old Dr who made me bleed years ago and snapped at me like i was my fault. I've never forgotten it and i think that's what puts me off going.

afternoon geeks, just bumping this one up its so so important for all you gals to get a smear!!!

I had to have two parts of my cervix removed yesterday and was told if I had not had my smear . I would quite possibly have developed tumours.

yes it was slightly undignified, which is why I put it off for so long, but now Id rather be abit embarrased than dead.

they said they are confident that all the cells were removed but I have to return in 6 weeks for another examination.

so to all you geeks that read my entry all those weeks ago and said you would get a smear............. and didnt:smack:...

get it booked! x x x :)

morning geeks,I apologise if this should be a journal enty but I feel that this is so important, every woman needs to read this.

I have had smear tests in the past but as I am only young , I ignored my last couple of routine tests

I only went for my smear last month as those adverts about it got to me, and today I have my appointment to see a specialist as my results were showing severe abnormalities, thankfully I already have a hospital date.

the point of my post is that whatever age you are you can get cervical cancer , it IS NOT an old womans disease like I thought

if any of you have ignored your reminder letter for your smear tests or have put off going through embarrassment , I beg you to make an appointment and get screened

I am only 26 and never thought I would need treatment at my age, now I am so glad I plucked up courage and got over my embarrassment and got screened.
100% with you on this 1 chuck xxxxx keep well stay strong n let us know how u get on xxx take care xxxxx emily xxx

Hi babe, take it nice and easy, but hey another life has been saved.....
Smear tests yep we all hate them, but they save life's and saved mine 2x now.
But I am so happy to say, that mine came back all clear this time, so I am a happy and so over the embarrassing 2 minutes. Whats 2 minutes of embarrassment, compared to what could have happend....

Hugs all round xxx
