hey skin geeks if anyone has any advice i would appreciate it, i popped over from hair :)

I have used dermalogica for ages and been happy with it but my skin has never really calmed down, just not been as spotty as it used to be but its now really getting me down as its looking angry and inflammed and flaky??

Am i using the wrong things, i've got Dermal clay cleanser that i use every day, clearing skin wash that i use twice a week, i've just ran out of daily microfoliant and clearing mattifier that i used everyday also, i use multi active toner everytime i wash my face, then either oil control lotion in the mornings or bedtime for breakouts at night time, i used to use the medibac night time one but the salon hadnt got any and told me this was the same?

Thanks for any help on this matter :)

It sounds like you have perhaps overdone it! I've only briefly worked with 'Dermalogica' but to my knowledge these products you have listed are for a very oily skin type and by the sounds of it have extracted more sebum (oil) from the skin than is needed. If you want to stick to 'Dermalogica' use 'Special Cleansing Gel' (twice daily), and for toning I would always advise something very simple: rose water (to soothe) or Orange flower water (mild but suitable for an oily skin type).
As for changing to another brand, I'm very keen on 'Darphin' at the moment. The products arent harsh and I always feel a difference in my skin when using them. For moisturiser use 'Darphin Skin Mat Moisturiser' to keep skin well balanced and keep excess oil at bay. (Also perfect for keeping make up on the skin!)
You can use any clay mask when you feel your skin is getting abit more oily (oil production tends to be more active over t-zone). Do not use more than once a week.
Any questions about that just let me know. Apologies if any of that doesn't make sense/if ive gone on a bit...I'm pretty tired! :p Good Luck xxx

ps find the toners I mentioned in sallys/beauty express etc etc... and 'Darphin' in salons that use the product, online or I think either john lewis or jenners may sell it. :/ x

Hiya,

Have you noticed a difference since you started using 'bedtime for breakouts'? I'm afraid it is NOT the same product as overnight clearing gel. The Medibac range is made for adult skin and contains a lot more calming ingredients than Clean Start. As teenage/young skin doesn't usually have other conditions such as dryness/sensitivity these are not in the Clean start range. There's a reason they are priced so differently!

With the usage you've described I don't think you should be having problems unless you have developed sensitivity or dehydration. It isn't really possible for us to see this over the forum :) Is your skin naturally oily?

I would really advise going back to your salon for a new facemapping. Are you having any facial treatments there? Your therapist really should be following you, making sure everything is going well if you've been using these products a long time.

There could be loads of other reasons apart from the products that could be producing the flakiness. Medication, change in lifestyle, even the cold weather and constant heating! These might make it neccessary to change your products too.

Hope this and the advice from beautygeeklucy will help you :) Sorry for the long post!

Now you say it yes I have noticed a difference since using bedtime for breakouts! It's got worse!
I've got oily skin in summer and winter it changes but it's always very sensitive, I can only shave once every 4 days unless of course I wanna be bright beetroot red!! Which leads mean on to looking into laser hair removal or IPL is it? very distressing being in such a fashion and looks industry and I look a scruff!
