Hi guys. I've tried a Brazilian blow dry twice and they didn't work, so I'd like to try a chemical straightener for the underneath layer of my hair around the neck line which is curly.

Is it simply a perm that they comb straight rather than curl or is it something different? What should I ask for and what should I expect them to do during the treatment?

My hair is tinted blonde by the way.

Many thanks. x

The process you are after is essentially the opposite to a perm , but the process of re-setting the hair bonds into the required shape is the same ,the solution used for relaxing is different to perming , you are after either a relaxer or a chemical straightener , both stronger than a Brazilian blowdry , with the chemical straightener being the strongest. As you mention that your hair is tinted blonde it would be advisable for the salon you choose to do a strand test as this procedure is not normally recommended on lightened hair , the products used in my salon don't allow for lightened hair , however there may be something out there that is appropriate that I don't know about!!! Hope this helps!!

Opti smooth however does! And I'd say permanent straightening is a lot weaker than relaxer! That stuff is scary!!

Opti leaves the hair in better condition than before you started! It's amazing! X

Never heard of that but could be a solution ! The relaxer , only " relaxes" the curl, whilst the chemical straightener " straightens" the hair, you must have had a bad experience!!! , I am careful with the hair that our products are used on and would definately never use on lightened hair , I've seen some shockers !!!

Thanks guys. I don't actually want it straight, I just want it smoother.

Relaxer began with Afro hair, like blue said relaxed is actually stronger, when I tested a bit on mine it disintegrated (bleached from base 2 to white) even gel perm made my hair like chewing gum.

Straightner is as It says because it's used on Caucasian hair which tends to have less of a tight curl and can be shaped a lot easyer than Afro hair,
Relaxer does a it says also, it relaxes Afro hair but dosent get it pin straight which would seriously damage it for most Afro hair. Sorry but iv been using straighteners ad relaxants since I was 14, and that's what iv learned over the last 10 years xoxo

Hi Opti is brilliant, I have had my hair straightened buy quite a few products and found this the best, they have a formula for sensitive hair, so is great for coloured hair, and as blue said there are 2 ways of applying so you have the choice of straight or smooth. I have just brought one and am just now waiting for someone to put it on lol..xx

Opti it is then. Can I buy it from the wholesalers and do it myself? I'm happy to go to a salon but how do I find one that uses Opti?

Thanks.

Hi kim ...i get mine from Aston and Fincher if you have an account with them..however I would get a hairdresser to carry out the treatment..otherwise see if you can google your local matrix salon xxx

Ok , just wondering, surely it would take a harsher chemical to break down the sulphur bonds and re-set them "straight" as opposed to "relaxing" which would take a less harsh chemical reaction ? Just thinking scientifically and referring back to the training i have gained from both loreal " relaxers" and wella " straighteners" ( whereby heat is used in conjunction with the chemical process ). straightening the hair is heat and chemical and relaxing is just chemical, slightly confused!

Also, just a side note, did u mean u had bleached hair when u put a relaxer on? if so, relaxers and straighteners should never be used on lightened hair so maybe thats why it disintegrated?!:Scared:
