Hi, I'll be opening my own salon here in a few short months and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on their favorite color/product line. I have used Framesi for the past 10 years and while I like it, I don't love it. I'd like to continue using it for certain clients but would also like to introduce a new line to the mix. Any input is appreciated. :)

Schwarzkopf or wella, I find wella very expensive

I agree. Wella is expensive, but it gets great reviews. Ughhhh, decisions - decisions

Are you planning to employ some staff? Maybe also consider what training and support is available to you from the colour house Reps. Ongoing training is vital to stay up to date and it’s handy if your colour house offers in-house salon training as part of their support package.

I'd like to hire a couple of stylists within the first 6 months. I regularly attend classes to stay up to date with trends. I've worked with several lines in the past, and as I said before, Framesi being the most current, unfortunately I don't love it to be exclusive with it. I figured opening my own place gives me the freedom to make a new color line choice......I just need some suggestions on what to pick.

I appreciate you might be up-to-date with your training but if you’re going to employ staff, you need to factor in regular training sessions to keep them up to date on current products and techniques and keep them motivated. When you drew up your business plan, how much did you predict for income from retail sales and how much of the budget will you set aside for annual training costs?
I’d probably use one of the big guns such as Goldwell, L’Oréal, Wella or Schwarzkopf (for the support & training) with a secondary lesser known brand for the fashion/funky stuff.
I mostly use Goldwell and Wella but I’m just trying out Alfaparf as it’s a popular brand over here.

I would look at what you get offered in terms of business support and education.

I use wella I shop around for offers and charge according. I would only use a reliable line and my clients all comment on how long the colour lasts and how good coverage is etc. That’s worth it really.

Honestly, if you are about to venture on your own, stick with what you know and are comfortable with first. I was a fan of Wella, however recently I noticed a change in their tones.

I opened my own salon in January. I used to Goldwell for 6 years then moved salon and used Alfaparf and hated it. The colour range isn't that great I thought the colours was really flat. So when I opened my own I've got back to Goldwell and I love it. The colour range is fantastic leaves the hair shiny they are constantly bringing new colours out. The support is also brilliant from them.
