I had this new client last week who found me through my add in Yell.com and asked if I did chevrons French. She was coming from a taning shop which also did nails but her tech (who did gel) had left and she was looking for someone else. She did not tell me she had psoriasis on the phone. All is revealed when she arrived and I proceeded with soaking off her current overlay as she swore her psoriasis was not a problem in the nail department. I have never seen psoriasis nails in real life before but the pictures in my nail book depicted hers pretty well. No definitive smile line and very yellow and badly pitted, overgrown natural nail. Also hard and thick. I gently advised against chevron French and suggested colour which she politely refused as she doesn't really like colour. Insisted on the French chevron which looked terrible after prepping but something STRANGE seemed to happen. Whilst the chevron went on with straight lines, it seemed to go wonky and wavy over a few minutes so that she had crooked wavy chevrons. I definitely was NOT happy, and although she okayed the work, I know she was not entirely convinced that I had done my best job. Is this usual for someone with psoriasis? Her overlays looked terrible and I am trying to convince myself that this is not my fault. By the way, she's not had chevrons before but wanted to try something different.

Hi Mrs Clooney

I'm not really sure what chevrons are, unless they are white tips in the chevron shape.

But talking about psoriasis, I have a client who has severe psoriasis in 4 of her nails, thick, pitted nail plates, onchylosis and generally, four nails that look vile.

I enhance her nails with pink and white l/p, keeping them short and she loves them.....disguises the psoriasis...and doesn't exaccerbate it. I've been doing her nails for over 6 months now and we've had a few hiccups....but we got over them.

I know that all the books tell you to stay away from nails with severe psoriasis, but it can work with care and attention.

Chevrons are a V shape, generally in white (like a French) or they can be painted in any colour you like.

Yes, Kimmi, thanks and my client insisted hers were a fair length. The result was awful I thought. If this client comes back to me I will advise her again on a colour, but I don't think she wants them short or with colour.

What we aim to do is to please our clients first and formost. :D

What pleases them does not always please us! :irked:

Where we (hopefully) have a sense of design and beauty,
the fact is that many clients do not and feel that anything that is longer than what they had originally is better and more beautiful.

Many times we must forget what we want and do what they want. This hurts when you know you could really improve the look and makeover these ugly-type nails.
Serving the public is not always easy or satisfying.:suprised:
This is the Nail Business.
