Hi All, I need to have a really good moan here. The salon where I usually get my nails done cancelled my appointement because my nail tech was ill and they couldn't reschedule me for another week. My rebalance was already 3 weeks overdue, so I made an appointment with another salon (Hairdressers plus nails, Family business) where I know they use the same nail product. Anyway, had my nails done by the tech who was young and been doing nails for less than 2 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being young (early 20's maybe) but she was a bit cocky and knowallie and did a BAD job. I told her I was a nail tech but it's possible that because sheknew I only had 6mths experience that she knew better than I did. She did not buff my cuticle/infill area and did not use primer although she swears she did. The job done, I got in my car and the nails had started lifting in cuticle area before I got home! I always like to give people the benefit of the dout, so phoned to tell her of my dilemma and she booked me in for the next day. The next day she swore this had NEVER happened before and that I tended to have oily nail beds (I assume she meant that this was the reason for the lifting, although I have had my nails done with this product for a year now with NO probs). I gently pointed out that I didn't think she had buffed the infill area or used primer. She SWEARS she did and she proceeded to file the infill area and rapidly applied gel over her filing to fill in the gaps. No gloss was applied unless she applied gloss as the basis for her infils! HENCE,STILL much lifting with previous gell application noticable prior to infil around cuticles and lifting around skin folds which I did point out to her at the time where she had dribbled the gel product. I have not taken this further as I put it down to ' How Not To Do Nails!' and for all my six months INEXPERIENCE hope I NEVER do nails like this. The only prob now is when I see my clients, they see my current nails and it is not a good advertisement. I don't have the time to fix the problem but will be seeing my regular tech next week. MY goodness, she has a repair job on her hands! Sorry for the Blurb but had to get that out!

I had the same happen to me a few years back - it was a real eye opener and gave me a lot more confidence in my own work. She did a full set in an hour by cutting loads of corners, they too were lifting by the time I got home. Didn't bother to complain just put it down to a £39 lesson in how not to do nails and that speed isn't the bee all and end all, but quality sure as hell is. And the whole time she was parping on about how good she was and how well she had been trained and had 5 years experience blah di blah!

Well thanks for that. I didn't mention that on both days, she nicked me with her nail file (same place 2 days in a row0 and caught me in a couple of other places as well that had me jumping in my seat). I also noted mum (the hairdresser) hovering over, I'm sure just to make sure I wasn't giving the daughter a hard time. Honestly, I don't go out of my way to make people feel uncomfortable, but I really hope I NEVER do nails this badly. I just put it down to experience and want to keep learning so as to provide a fantastic service. I know I have a lot to learn!

I am always so careful when filing close to the edges/cuticles of the nails, I know how easily that skin can get nicked by a sharp file. She must've been an abusive filer.

Definitely a lesson learned................but I must ask.......
Why aren't you doing your own nails?
As you say you want your nails to a good advert for you therefore shouldn't you have your workmanship on display.......I am just curious, I always did my own nails, then my employee did them, really to show my clients how good she was!
Yet I did have a couple of techs as clients, and that always amazed me that they would pay money for something they could do.(although I suspect they looked upon it as a lesson as well!)
I always found that whatever I had on my nails,my clients would also want, therefore I wouldn't want to say another salon did them!!

For me it was that I wanted the pamper!

i wouldnt like to wear someone elses work and like to wear my own but sometimes i do wish i could just 'hand' my hands over to someone else for a couple of hours!!

it takes me so long to do my own nails and its hard to find the time sometimes!
but i still do it, coz ppl say 'do you do your own nails?' and 'you dont do your own nails tho, do you?'

and i can proudly say 'yes, i do'

xxx

There is nothing nicer then having someone else do you nails..!
