Hi all, hoping you have a few suggestions!
I am on an NVQ2 Womens Hairdresssing course and we have an in college womens evening updo competition. Our tutors cannot help us except to tell us where / how to improve our techniques.

What I would like to know is: should I keep it simple but elegant and well executed or should I try something more avant garde?? I was thinking of combining a basket weave effect or loose plaits with a french pleat/roll?

Anyone out there that has done this sort of thing or judges this sort of thing and can can give me their opinion?
Thanks

Keep it simple and classic they don't like fuss cause it's meant to be elegant and classic :)

I agree sleek and well executed...and i know it sounds obvious but sturdy aswell! I was once in a competition and one of the models hair completely fell down half way through being judged. (not mine fortunatley!) also if your not on a block i think good choice in make up definiatley helps! Keep it elegant and sophistacated and good luck hun!! X

Hi there,

The evening up do has to be something smooth and sleek but if you want to put a twist on it you could always look back to the 40's or 50's? There are lots of hair books around that give you step by step guides to a vintage up-do.

Competitions are to show what you know and also to bring out your personality, evening doesn't have to mean boring. I love doing things outside of the box but i still keep the objective my main focus.

Hope this helps x

Thanks everyone, will probably go for elegant and intricate, put lots of practise in it so its as gd as can be. Will make sure my model is 'dolled' up too, every little will help!

hi wandering women i agree with blondie go for the 1940 n 1950 styles with a twist its all in at the min. i won it last year and done a audrey hepburn type updo. just practice practice practice untill its perfected and good luck let me know how you get on x:lol:
