I did a 3 day nails course in 2009 and just been doing family and friends nails every now and again for nights out and things, however I am wanting to set up mobile and do this proper on the public, I am looking at doing another course as it was so long ago that I originally learnt and I don't think the certificate is worth the piece of paper it is written on, I've seen a course at college that is a year long and certified by city & guilds that costs £689 but there is also a course at a beauty academy that is a 5 day course and is £550 but im not sure if it would be certified as my last one was meant to be and now isn't worth anything, im worried about spending money and it not being legit, would it be more certain to go to college and be 100% sure that it is legit?

What specifically do you want to do? Acrylic, gel nails, gel polish, shellacer, manicures, pedicures? The list is long. You could look at brand training, like NSI, CND, Young Nails etc.

You really need to ensure the course you do is a recognised qualification that will enable you to get insurance to work on members of the public. Hth.

I looked into the NSI one but wasn't sure if this was a proper legit certificate at the end or whether it just says im trained in that brand?

That's why I was thinkin college could be better, surely a college course will be a recognised qualification, I just dont want to risk a shorter course and end up getting stung again and having to do it all again for a 3rd time,

Like jbr said above, you need to do a recognised course for insurance. If you’re looking to learn everything look at doing a L3 in Nail Tech which will be a VTCT qualification and is widely accepted by insurance. If money is a factor (which it was for me) you can get government funding at selected schools for L3 courses. L3 is usually 20 weeks long but you cover everything and it’s very thorough. Some schools may let consider letting you fast track if you’ve already got experience.
