So my sisters hair is shoulder length with about 2-3 inches of regrowth. She's about a 3 dark brown and has tons of blonde highlights. She wants to go all an. Auburn red color bit I'm not super sure how to go about this, I have a friend whose got more experience who told a friend a while back when she colored over like that to use a 20vol all over since parts of her hair were lighters but I'm just hoping that if I did that that the old highlights wouldn't start showing and fading sooner! Any suggestions or should I use like a bleach bath to lighten the rest of here hair and then color it?

If u pre-lighten the roots u will av to do that everytime she wants her roots doing and the line where it grows out will be more prominent. U could pre-pigment the ends and blonde areas first.. Then put the auburn all over.. 6% is gonna be the best option as it will lift the roots a little and will blend in better with the ends..Spray the ends with water and it will dilute the peroxide down giving u a much richer auburn on the ends.. However.. All reds fade.. There's no getting away from that.

I agree, i would also pre pig the ends of her hair. When applying the tint i would use 20vol on her roots and 10vol on midlengths and ends, this should give a nice even result. Could also add more warmth to your colour for midlengths and ends to minimise fade and also if as dark as a 3, root area will prob throw off extra warmth anyway.
Good luck!

I also agree but I would pre pig and colour the mid lengths and ends with a quasi as I find it sits better in porous hair and is more conditioning
