Hi just looking for a bit of advice. We had a client last week who had attempted a home ombré and had really orange roots / midlenghts and knackered ash blonde ends with very visible banding & harsh line separating the two. Following a consultation, we decided to try and cleanse the regrowth area and then achieve a more natural highlighted blonde effect to break up the banding. I used a Malibu sachet then did foils with 6% & silk lift avoiding the already lightened ends. Then flooded in between with a 7a. The highlights were lovely and I wish I had just stuck with that and not infilled as the 7a came out much darker than expected. This has never happened before and I was shocked how dark it came out, so glad I didn't go for a 6a which I nearly did. Although she was happy with the result and said it looked much better than before, I wasn't and said I am happy to redo it if she feels it is too dark when she got home. She has now booked in and I will do it this week for her free of charge but am worried about the effect of cleansing the hair on her highlights.

I am considering using a gentle cleanse with effasor and hot water as don't think the Malibu sachet will do enough but have never had to do something like this on highlighted hair. Am thinking of using cotton wool strips in between sections to prevent the remover going on the pre-lightened hair. Has anyone done this effectively, would welcome any advice thanks.

These home ombré kits are a nightmare and I bet now the new Cheryl cole advert is out, there are going to be even more home hair disasters to sort out!

If her hair is in really bad condition I would try and avoid bleaching again at all costs, can you not explain maybe even if she gives it a few weeks it will fade and in the meantime do some conditioning treatments, it's went darker than normal because her hair is porous therefore it's just sucked all the colour up but because it is porous you will probably find it will fade fast xx

Agreed, a few washes and it'll fade.

Thanks for replying, she is coming in tomorrow afternoon, the root area is in ok condition so I will have a look and see, maybe use another Malibu sachet to shift some tone
