I've just started in a salon about a month ago and it's all new experience.

Clients are comming in with some ragged cuticles and in struggling.

In college we were told never to trim off all the cuticles and only use nippers for hang nails etc.

What's your top tips for thick, hard, dry, ragged, nasty cuticles?

Mainly for when I'm doing shellac prep?

Thanks everyone :D

CND Cuticle Away. Nothing better. Also a good pusher and curette.

Has anyone any other tips and tricks for perfect cuticle work?

Its not an instant win when it comes to cuticle work, initally your client will be more wowed than you as they will see an instant improvement, we on the other hand just see the faults, it's what we are trained to do, but thats the job.

You've been given great advice both by Attitude above and college, never cut cuticles (you leave yourself and client open to all sorts of issues from bleeding, to infection) and use a good quality cuticle remove and professional tool.

Good aftercare is more important than ever with new clients, I tell mine that I can only do 50% of the work, the rest is down to them using their Solar Oil regularly and taking care of the hands and nails.

Trinity, I love the comment where you say you can only do half the work! I totally agree with that!! Although as a new tech it can be hard to convince the client that, but confidence is key to get them to believe anything we say
