Hey,
I've had a new client come in today, I done gel polish on her just before new year and when she came in last was explaining to me about how her nails become damaged after having gel polish previously at other salons and I was confused on how they could be damaged on what she was saying. On the ring finger she has a split going right down the nail hard to see in photo Please can someone advise me on what is happening to this clients nails and why gel polish could be the problem she said she's fine with nail varnish and never had nail extensions she's convinced it's the acetone????
Any help will be much appreciated x x

Is she oiling? Could be dehydration.

I think dehydrated but why would her baby finger be like that though not seen it happen before and also ring finger split down the middle and she says normal her nails are fine but only after gel polish is taken off they go like this?? X x

The pinkie looks like Onycholysis to me, it's is a common nail disorder. It is the loosening or separation of a fingernail or toenail from its nail bed. It usually starts at the tip of the nail and progresses back. Could be psoriasis or skin condition or more often than not, shock or trauma, which causes the painless separation. She is best keeping the nail short, it should attach but obviously this takes time. If it worsens send her to her GP.

I agree and it's possibly starting on her ring and index fingers too.
I'd cut it short and tell her to oil it daily and keep it short

Definitely onycholisis, keep the nail short
