This is so true...

Reading this thread has made me so angry that all you 'Experienced' hairstylist refuse to help a student with their homework?
Would you help an apprentice in your salon? if so then whats the difference on here, and if not then you shouldn't be given the right to have an apprentice working for/with you.

It has honestly made me sick.

i think it gets peoples backs up when people come on and dont even try to help themselves .. the OP offered nothin in her post it was just tell me , its for an assignment and like now asap .. lol

i know we were taught all the different cutting styles before we had even tried doing them so we knew a one length ,graduation , layered etc.. surely they must have theory classes or are shown demos .. if not then teaching has gone right down hill and how the heck will she pass practicals ?

maybe if it hads been worded like ... whats the best angle to hold the hair at .. or something .. anything other than basically "tell me the answer now "

no one expects anyone to know everything , gawd we all ask each other questions but if you do have a question at least show willing and try help yourself at least a little bit

Yes thats what i thought at first with her question, if her tutor is not showing her the proper way on how to use cutting angle's then obviously there is something wrong with her knowledge, she is asking about two different style's with different cutting angle's???

if it was a paper exercise where a tutor had set out research tasks, that CAN be found in the books, then no, i wouldnt tell them the answer, i would advise they find the answer and once they think they have it run it by me for more advise. . nothing should come handed on a plate in my humble opinion, i had to learn with hard work and dedication and it has imparted a good work ethic. so the opinions on here may have seemed harsh but they are justified and appropriate. i personally would rather make a mistake and learn from it so i am more aware than be spoonfed the answer.

Whats the difference between reading it on here, and reading it in a book? turning pages doesn't help you learn anything about hairdressing! what does help you learn, is asking a question about something you don't know, and having a professional (on a forum for people to share ADVICE and EXPERIENCE) explain it to you so you'll never have to ask it again!

If it were a salon situation then I'm sure that the apprentice wouldn't have worded their question in the same manner, so in that respect I can't see what your problem is with the replies received on this thread!

Had the OP asked "am I right in thinking that the difference between A and B is XYZ?" then they would have got a totally different response because it would have shown that they'd tried to figure out the answer for themselves.

Who learns by copying answers from other people? It's no different in any profession, salon or otherwise, doing your own research and asking whether you have got the correct answer is much better for the learning process than getting other people to do your homework/research for you!

An apprentice asking a question in a salon situation is a bit different from someone being sat at their computer and asking a question on a forum though.

In the time it took to log on, go to the board, start a new thread and type the question, the words 'hair bob' and 'graduated bob' could have been typed into Google and bosch - done.

Not to mention the OP having to wait for a reply aswell.

It's not that people dont want to offer help on here, it's that people want others to help themselves first.

Perry, don't let it make you sick and angry, what does that achieve?

You are new to SG too and it is a real wealth of info but it is unwritten that we don't help people with assignments, we sometimes point them in the right direction but never give the answer straight out. It peeves some people and you get the odd reaction like yours from the newer geeks but most understand. You are of course entitled to your say like everyone else and I respect that don't get me wrong.

When I was studying Mr Google and You Tube were my research tools and boy I used them and this would be my advice to a question like the OP as a starting point.

(I actually didn't like the way the question was asked originally so didn't respond with my usual answer but after reading it tonight, I wanted to come to the defence of some of the geeks being lambasted).

If one of my apprentices asked me this question, I would tell her the clue is in the question. One is graduated, one is not.
The others are correct though, google is the best resource here, not a forum like this. I cant draw a picture on here to illustrate the difference like I would in the salon.
If the OP is genuinly training to be a hairdresser, she will have tutors and /or colleauges to go to.
Coming onto a forum and demanding the answer to a homework question ASAP is appalling manners and highly innapropriate, and should not be encouraged.

I totally agree Hun it is unfair rather us help them than they go and get disheartened trying to find the answer I've seen 4 apprentices in the space of a year give up in the salon j just left and it's because nobody wanted to help them, not nice at all xx

I have chosen to close this thread as it seems to be going round in circles, sparring!

The bottom line is that no one is unwilling to help those students who wish to help themselves and make an effort.

The whole point of this thread is the way the question was asked. Answer my question now!
