Hi,

Saw the other post about the nail kit stuff available in the new Argos catalogue.

I work for Argos Head Office in my day job and we had suppliers in last week to promote their products that are in the new catalogue. One of them was this company that supply these nail kits and they asked me to enter a comp they were doing to win free nail kits and an airbrush set.

I declined and said that I had a problem with them, the bloke asked what my problem was and I said that I was a trained Nail Tech and that I thought it was dangerous of them to sell these products to the untrained general public.

He said, "She's a Nail Tech!" gesturing to the woman to his side, and proceeded in telling me that the kits were designed ESPECIALLY for the public?!?!?!?

I mentioned that UV lamp used incorrectly can be painful (I don't do Gel but remember a burning feeling on my nails when I had Gel done on me years ago - It really hurt.) abut he said that the lamp is a really low wattage, does that mean it doesn't do the job then.

We reached stalemate really.. So I walked off.

I was thinking about contacting our buyers for these products, but doubt I'd have any clout and would prob need to back up my claims with something.

Ho-Hum.

Miss B. x

Unfortunately, I think even if all the trained nail techs in britain were to lodge a complaint they would not withdraw these products.

I'm mobile and have been to loads of houses where clients have told me they've tried to 'do' their own nails with either diastrous or damaging results. Neadless to say I've told them off and never to use the products again as they know nothing about the chemicals involved or how to use them or dispose of them safely.

I'd say lets start a campaign but I really don't think it would change a thing, just well done you for refusing to have anything to do with it!

Personally, I think home kits may not be such a bad thing.......has anyone EVER met anyone who used them and got a decent result????????????? What i've found is that there are some people who are always looking for ways to save money, they buy a kit, find out how difficult it is, ruin their nails, respect you MUCH more for the job you do and NEVER try to use the kits again unless absolutely p****d and then they try it on their pals................

Fair play for you having a go Miss B....I guess you'll find that all these 'home' kits have had the input of a nail tech somewhere along the lines....and expect for a certain fee for it.

So proud of you for voicing your corner.

xx
