Goodmorning peeps,

Now I know your nails are your best form of advertising - so what do you ladies who cannot do your right hand "good enough" do - do you have your nails done somewhere else? if so how do you know the work is going to be to your high standards,? and then if someone asks you where you got your nails done do you fib and say oh I do nails???

I have got tiny nail beds narrow and small so the french white tips is really a no go and it takes me about 3 hours to do a decent set on myself and I know this will get better but ......... I am just not patient eough :o

Thanks guys xx

Hiya xx

I always do my own nails..

I have nails on at the moment done by Minkus on this site as i was a model for her and if asked i would say she did them. I would never tell people i had done them if i hadn't.

It is your best form of advertising and also a nice feeling when your told your nails look great and asked who did them...ME..and here is my card...lol

Hi Leanne,

Do a search on this as there have been loads of threads before which may help you.

I don't wear enhancements but, if I did, I would get anthother technician to do them for me as I am sure the result on my right hand would not be very good. Loads of technicians do manage to do their own very well but I think I would cause a lot of damage to my natural nails before I mastered the applciation of enhancements with my left hand. I think nail technicians nails should always be immaculate as they are the technicians best advert.

I always do my own nails unless Ive modelled for someone else.
Yes I hate doing my right hand and it takes me a lot longer than my left.
Im getting better though and I think perseverance is the key .. it just sometimes feels like they key needs a big lock!

Hi Leanne

I have started to do my own but have found that it was taking hours espically when using my left hand. What I do now is do my right hand which is the worst one evening and then do the other hand the next morning. I have found I am doing a better job as am not getting as fed up. But must admit when someone asks to look at them I tend to only show them my good hand lol but time and practice.

Hi, yes this question pops up every so often....so you could do a search....
I always do my own nails, I used to have my niece whom I trained to master technician level do them as she was still an advert for me.....but she hated doing my nails for some reason!!!!:(

You are your own best advert and your nails should be the best they can be....that will take practice so persevere with your left handed application it will be worth it.... Also I know too much and now cannot relax if someone else were to do my nails and possibly wouldn't do them to a high enough standard
(possibly why my niece didn't like doing them!!)

And I would have to PAY!!! not that we Scots are mean....but why pay for something you can do better and for free!!!:)

For some reason I always do my left hand first (I am right handed), as once I do the easiest hand by the time I get to my right hand I'm in the swing of things. I used to do it the other way round and omg my little finger nail used to look deformed! I tend to leave the job for as long as I can get away with because it takes me 1/2 a day usually. I'm never satisfied with the finished result, though people love 'em but don't get me started on trying to do nail art on my right hand...

Thanks ladies for your replies - sorry should have done a better search:o

wanted to know if any of you "cheated" I know terrible word but....I am like you Laura don't want to show my right hand, but how difficult is that when signing anything in a shop etc I do everything with that hand!!

I have got lots of patience but when it comes to myself well just feel like having a right paddy

I always do my own nails nowadays. At first I had other technicians do them but I was always asked who did my nails and felt a bit embarrassed when I told them someone else. Now when someone asks I feel quite proud of my achievement as I feel they look pretty darn good to the none trained eye (as long as you don't scrutinise them too closely!)

Its hard work, but it saves you a lot of money and the patience pays off, plus you really get to feel how you file and therefore know what the client feels with your prep and application etc.

Keep practicing .. in my humble opinion its worth all the extra effort :)

I do my own nails too but they always look terrible after about a week, ive got to soak them of and reapply. My right hand always gets lifting. Altough the nails i am wearing right now have lasted nearly two weeks. So maybe im getting better at my technique. I was thinking of getting them done from another tec but thought if people asked who done them it wouldnt make me feel good telling them it was someone else.

I do try, I'm just not very good at it :( If I have loads of time, then they're better, but my left hand always looks better than my right hand

normally do my own but it i feel like a treat i will get angie to do them....find my right hand so hard to do !

I always do my own nails ... it takes a bit of getting used to, especially when you're doing your "other" hand, but it's well worth it. Not only does it save you time and money, but it's good practice that you can repeat time and time again ... plus the fact that you will never need to make an appointment !!!

Thanks for all the brill answers :)
I admire you all for having the detemination to do your own nails and to keep doing them!

Go get 'em girls xxxx

i do my own nails and now i sculpt them but only on my good hand and i have my bad hand done with tips i tell customers that im showing the difference!!!!

but when i started my bad hand was pants but now , and i dont know why my bad hand seems to be my best hand! i think its cos i take more care over the placement and smoothing etc as i dont want to file for ages but they do look pretty good so i dont know why my good hand doesnt! maybe its cos i do my good hand first to then get on with the gruesome task of my right hand perhaps i should do them the other way round and by the time i get to my left hand im still being really careful etc mmmmmmmhhhhh im gonna try that next time.
trouble is im impatient!!!!!

i also do my own nails - left hand first (lol) if anyone asks to see them i only shoe the left hand as the smiles arnt quite so smily on the right hand, it does take practice tho - as i found out, but still going at it and am getting there,

I always do my own. Definitely looks good if you can model your own work. It did take a lot of practise & my first set took me 3 hours. I now sculpt when I do my own but at first I had to use tips. I also like to embed things or wear nail art but it's definetly a problem when it comes to my right hand. I tend to wear either rhinestones or nailtopia stickers rather than freehand art as it's a lot easier to do on myself. It also covers up any little mistakes along the smile line :)

So true about doing your own nails, good practise...
I've always done my own nails except for once when another biosculpture tech did my nails. It was lovely to be sitting in the 'clients' chair, very therapeutic. She did a bril job. For practice, I've done 2 sets of infills on her job myself and it was a brill experience for me! Never mind it took ages as I didnt have the patience to do my own nails! I've actually learnt how to handle the gel better by doing my own nails though!
