Hiya peeps! Help me please and give me some honest advice. Went into work today where i have started renting a table, i had someone booked in for a rebalance which was fine. But when she came in she had no nails on, i did her nails two weeks past friday, she didnt blame me at all and said they had just came off in the past few days. I do tip and overlay and this woman came to me from a tec who sculpts. She said she prefers the sculpts to tips as they are stronger, i agreed but told her i wasnt confident in doing them just yet and she was happy to go with tips. But shouldnt her nails have stayed on until today cause i have heard people can go three weeks? Anyway i didnt let it bother me until i got a call from a client who i did on friday last week, she was a nail biter and hadnt had nails done before, i i recommended that she came back to see me after a week to see how they were, but when she called today she said three was off by saturday and demanded they were fixed and ordered a full refund. I told her to come in today to discuss. She is a 16 year old and she came to see me today with her older sister, when i took a look at her nails three was off but it was only the free edge that was off. I asked if she banged them, or if they were to long, but she said no. The other nails were perfectly fine, so i said i would fix them but would not give her a refund. Then she changed her mind and said she wanted them all off and a refund. I refused a refund and offered to fix them, which she has agreed.
I am so embarassed, is this my fault? Should have i given her a refund. I really dont know what to do. Any advice? Sorry for the long story.xx

No, I wouldnt have given the 16 year old a refund. Sounds like she was only after her money back, to demand a refund. Phht! She probably damaged them herself, and was hoping to get you to fix them and her money back in her pocket. I think you did the right thing.

Thank you for replying, i just cant help thinking it was my fault since my client who was due a rebalance was off too. Her rebalnce was only a few days late.

i think you did the right thing, she wanted the money and nice nails,
if she was a biter or picker and it is only the free edge damaged i would say she did it, nothing to do with you
dont worry hun you always find one who will try it on:) just stand your ground

Thank you kittenclaws, exactly what i need to hear. How lovely is everyone on here. But if anyone disagrees then dont be slow to tell me. X

sounds like she was a right bolshy little mare!!!

if the nails were off at the free edge my guess is it is deffo something she has done.

with regards to the re balance lady the fact that she had lost all the nails would make me a bit suspicious - is she sure she didnt help them on their way cause she wanted sculpts??????

they dont just fall off even after 3 weeks- dont worry about it chick!

Thats what i am saying if it was my fault, what would it be? Just so i know to make sure in future.

To be honest babe I dont reckon it is waht uve done shes probably been a biter!!

the only advice I can give you is mega prep to avoid lifting which may have caused her to pick.

remove shine from nails

remove any cuticle- have you got a double ended tool for this they are grand!!

sanitise the nails

then use srubfresh or nail pure

the nails needs to look really chalky.

if you use primer apply only to natural nail and wait until dry before applying product
Im probably tellin u stuff u already know

go easy on the amount of product you are applying in zone 3 if its to thick it will lift and keep away from the cuticle and side walls.

I fyour doin all this babe I cant see it being your fault.

Hope ive helped and not barbled!

No thanks nikki you have been great. cheers.xx

god im pleased and thanks for the rose didnt know u cud do that !!

Zoe.....Don't think we are just being nice...we are giving honest advice here you deserve nothing less....A 16yr old nail biter!!!!.....that said it all.

I also think you dealt with it brilliantly and very diplomatically....yes fix her three nails but I would charge for tidying the rest as she was due back after a week anyway.... A soak off AND refund would have been a big mistake..........
She was chancing her arm but you stood your ground....and you wouldn't even be giving yourself a hard time if it hadn't been for that other client......tips and overlay are as strong as sculpts...and this client didn't blame you because she KNOWS why they came off....!!
Honestly we have all been there dealing with the chancers and the pickers!! Its how you deal with these people that sorts out the girls from the nail techs....and you sound more like a nail tech to me!!

Thank you Isabel, your great! I feel a lot better and i am not going to let it get me down. As i have just started renting all my rebalance customers are due back this week, so i didnt know if it was my fault or not as i havent seen anyone elses nails yet. But i was prepared for this i just new it was going to happen one day! But the day i done the 16 year olds, i also done the girl i work there with and hers were fine, so i guess if it was something i do then hers would be off too eh!! Anyway cheers.xx

Just to let you know i am just back from fixing my 16 year old nail biters nails. I soaked the ones that were broken at the free edge and asked her which other ones she wasnt happy with. When i looked at them i have to say there was nothing wrong with them. I just thinned them down and applied new product and applied tips and overlay to the broken ones. One i had finished i asked if they were good enough and she said yes, but im waiting for a phone call though. When i did them on friday she had no complaints then and said she really liked them. If she calls to complain i really dont know what to do, but heres hoping they will be fine. I work nights cleaning offices for extra money until i build up and had to take tonight (unpaid) off to do them for her. I also had to take monday off to because of her when she came into complain, so she cant say im unproffessinal eh! Phew got that of my chest!!lol. Thanks for all the kind words.x

i find that nail biters are the hardest clients to do as you cant guarantee them as soon as they leave the shop. as for teenagers defo don't guarantee them as they are heavy handed, oily nail plates don't help at all and they do not listern to any aftercare advice given and i also find they do not help in maintaining their own extensions either like using a cuticle oil to stop lifting!! i'm sick of people thinking once the nails are one they will stay on forever even if they move furinture and dig up weeds etc..... they are not indistructable and require some level of care from themselves.
Do not be disheartened as i know how your feeling. i had same problems when i first started out, but now 2 1/2 years on those sort of cleints get less and less.
sorry about rant i'll shut up now xx

awww babes, big hugs your way. by the sounds of things you didnt do anything wrong, being a nail bitter myself you do have a chop ever now and then, and then you go back to your nail tech with your head between your legs. It sound like she was defo trying it on, as said above, as she proabably saw a new dress she wanted and thought she would try and con you out of your hard earned money. If she really wanted a refund she owuld have fought for it big style and would have complained etc, you did nothing wrong hun.

Keep your chin up, dont let them beat you down.

thanks guys, im not worrying too much about it now, that is until the next time.xx

The Worst One To Do Are Friends And Neighbours, Iv Got To Get This Off My Chest Before I Explode , An Old Neighbour And Friend Of Mine Called Two Weeka Ago, She Normally Goes To A Salon, But This Particular Day She Couldnt Get A Late Appointment So Thus Rang Me, To Do Infils , Which I Did And Have To Say They Looked Pretty Dammed Good, My Client Couldnt Believe There Was No Join In The Product As She Can Usually See It Where She Goes? Very Dodgy.... Anyway Two Days Later She Said That Two Had Started To Lift She Came Back And Sorted For Free, She Was Again Happy But Three Days Later She Said They Were All Lifting, To This I Was Baffled So She Camed Picked Some Acetone Up Finger Bowl Etc And Said To Soak Them Off, She Came Back 24 Hours Later And Replaced A Full Set For Free As Not To Get Her Back Up She Instructed Me To Put Two Coates Of Primer On As Thats What They Did In The Shop? So This Is What I Did Them Nails Were Really Nice, Good Enough For A Competion, She Was Amazed How Nice They Were I Thought To My Self Well Lets Hope These Last , She Also Explained That At The Salon They Used Nsi Acrylic So Doing My Professional Bit I Had Orderd Trial Size Nsi This Came The Next Day , I Text Her To Say That I'd Got The Stuff She Was Made Up. Then 3 Days She Texted To Say They Had All Come Off And Her Nails Were A Mess Could I Fit Her In Before Her Scheduled Appointment , Yeah Course I Can , But Told Her That They Would Be The Full Price, And Never Got Anything Back For Nearly Two Hours And Then She Texed Me Can She Pay Me In Morrisons Vouchers!!!!!!!!!! Well To Say I Was Gob Smacked Was An Under Statement , The She Had The Cheek To Leave It Till The Day Of Her Appointment And Then Text Me To Cancel To Say That She Was Leaving Them And Giving Them A Rest , But She Told Me She Had Never Not Had Nails On For The Past 5 Years And When She Came To Me Her Nails Were Full Of Thick Ridges Where They Had Used A Drill, (not Very Well ) So Im Just Furious That She Had Infils And Then Full Set Done For Free And Then Spent Money On Trial Acrylics To Suit Her.... I Feel Im Going Mad As This Hasnt Happened To Me In 18 Months Iv Been Doing This.
