When I do a fibreglass overlay, it starts chipping quickly, after 2 days mostly on the side of the free edge. I've tried not filing, but mostly buffing with the sanding block. I don't know why this is happening. Sometimes a piece of the fibreglass comes off leaving the natural nail exposed. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Help!

hi and welcome to Geekdom Theresa :D
could it be that you're not capping the free edge?
which fibreglass system do you use?
there are probably other techs on here who use the same system and can advise you better.
xx

fiber is my fav...this could happen for several resons...check your prep 1st.. check position of fiber to make sure its nowhere near edges.... check to make sure you put enough resin or glue over the fiber (remember when you file or buff it comes off very easy so after shaping do another coat or 2 then buff) if you see fiber then u need more glue or resin... these buggers NEED OIL!!!!! you HAVE to oil then at least 2x a day . i do not garantee them without it. make sure u r using a good product the BEST is backscratchers hands down another good one is elegant glass, but i sick with backscratchers. when done properly these nails will be flawless, quick, and stronger than l&p.

Hi

I use backscratchers fibre glass too and i find that you really do need that extra few coats of resin. Once i have shaped the nail, after my third coat of resin, I apply an extra two coats of BRUSH ON RESIN. This is sooooo much easier to use and control.
I took my nearly a year to get it right!

Hi Theresa, After you have applied your strip of fibreglass, cut it so that it fits to the free edge and none is overhanging, then apply another coat of resin by stippling it into the fibre and cap your free edge, if you are leaving an overhang of fibre and then filing, you're not capping which can cause the enhancement to chip at the free edge. The fiberglass I use is soft touch. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the advice, I was leaving some fibreglass along the free edge. I will try it your way next time. I'm sure this is one of the contributions to my problem. Do you know of any uk websites where I can order backscratcher products?

Isnt Supernail the UK distributor for backscratchers but you can only purchase if you have done your training I believe.
