So I have just had an interview for an opportunity to join a really well known salon! They know I have just passed my level 2 and although knowledgeable I'm not 100% confident in every aspect but they are giving me a chance by giving me a trades test.

My sister has offered to be my model (I have never done her hair before) and has shoulder length bright red hair which was coloured by someone trained in hair who works from home but I'm not sure what she used on it.
The salon I'm going to is loreal and I'm trained as wella.

For my trades test I need half head of highlights and cut and blow.
I'm really stressing over colour for the highlights and what to do with it.
I was leaning more towards maybe putting some caramel highlights? But I'm not too sure.

Any help and tips for the trades test and colour options would be lovely!

I'm terrified

Firstly, don’t be terrified. They want to test your potential. They aren’t expecting you to be the next Vidal Sassoon.
Any good salon wants someone they can train but who has basic skills and is personable and eager to learn. Remember to smile a lot and be friendly with all the staff you come into contact with.

However...red hair??? Seriously, can you find another model with virgin hair or something less red? Advertise on Facebook amongst your friends.
Caramel or blonde highlights on bright red hair looks awful.
Otherwise, you could use bleach to lift it to a 9 then tone with a pink or purple direct dye colour for a contrast against the red.

She's the first one who offered but I'm looking for someone with a more natural base colour. The trades test will be in a few days though (very short notice) so I'm having to find someone in a panic!
I'm confident with my technique but just choosing with red was throwing me off. If they have asked for highlights can you do lowlights instead?

Why not give them a call and ask?

Can you do red highlights?

For a trade test I wouldn’t expect you to know Loreal but be able to describe the colours to convert.

For example if you wanted to use a 8/3 then you should be able to say your looking for gold etc

Defo don’t go putting blonde highlights in her hair - is it’s a chain salon like T&G or Rush they would probably not appreciate it

I think I might be able to as most people have said it's just so they can see your technique I guess. :)
