can anyone recommend the quickest way of doing a full head highlights without sacrificing quality??

it seems to me i am taking a little too long doing this. i am so particular with not doing them too chunky or too far apart etc, but i feel i shouldnt be taking around 1 hr15mins to do them.. one of the stylists in my salon can do it in 45mins :(

ive tried various sectioning patterns and i do prefer doing them on an angle at the sides as i think the result is nicer, but somehow takes longer to do.

Hi, i dont think your timing is too long you will probably find that most stylists take about an hour (give or take) to weave a full head!x

thanks for the reply, we all need reassurance sometimes i think :)

Do you weave every clients highlights or...? Most of my clients can get away with having really fine slices! Try that saves you a good 20 mins! All depends what effect the client wants tho

probably quicker than me lol but one thing you could look into are combs that are available to weave for you which can save you a lot of time, one is the smart weave which only has one size weave but i think has a metal tail, and the other is affinage which has 2 differently sized weaves but not tail.

ive just had my affinage on delivered but havent had chance to use it yet...have a look on google :)

I vary between 1hr-1hr45 just depending on thickness of hair.
I've been hairdressing 7yrs.
I wouldn't try to cut corners, and worry, I'm sure ur work is beautiful...!xxx

I wouldnt worry too much on timing, you'll get faster the more you practise. We have a timing game in our salon, whos the quickest, if you adhere to it, it gets quite competitive i tell ya! 7 slices in 5 mins, tbf we all surpassed that, n from that we use as a guideline for time. Sectioning is something that every indivdual does do differently, some do 6 sections some do 8 some do vertical, horizontal, i prefer diagonal slices. Some hair is fine some is thick, just dont be so hard on yourself! xoxo

I do weave every clients hair. I find that I just don't like the idea of slicing fine ones ( not sure why ) I believe this is the way one if the girls does it at the salon and she uses this technique on almost every foil client. In always quite happy with the result I do now as are my clients.. I am getting faster at them, but I'm always comparing myself to others I guess.id rather do a good job, get it close to the root and last the client longer than rush it :)

Also, ignore the last bit ( couldn't get rid of it! )

Quality first. Don't compare yourself to others. Im sure ur faster than others at something else. We're not like the beauty industry where we have express services unless a client wanted just a fringe or a wash only, shame really as I'd love to put a item on my list saying express colour.

Take your time and only finish then when you are happy teybare good, people will wait longer for quality with their hair and be proud you are happy with the finish! Xoxo

I totally agree with 'tomme' the quality of your work should come first as i said before i think your timing is fine. I think we all need reassurance from time to time!!!x

This thread has really reassured me, I also take a good hr or so and thought it was just me lol :)

I am training and it takes me an about 90 mins+ to do a full head of foils still so I have just ordered a weave comb! I will still practise my 'weave' technique but this will speed things up for me. Thx for the tip! x

Where have I been to only just find out about these?will order one and have a go on my mum seeing as she's my living block haha xoxo

Amazing comb!! Always use it - the pink smart weave from juju products x

I have a smart weave comb and it does thin and thicker weaves to get the thicker weave you have to hold the comb further down the hair, their was a video on youtube that shows you how.
Hope this helps

Ah this is interesting, I bought the Affinage Highlighting comb as I didn't feel id like to just use one sized weave...

NEW Affinage 'Hi Lighter' Comb | Facebook

I haven't had chance to use it yet though...the only thing I've found rather annoying about both of these combs as they don't have a metal tail, I know some people don't use the tail to put there foils in but I do so I would probably find it difficult to adapt...but I can't wait to give it a go :)

Ive been hairdressing 15 years and a full head of foils can take me anything between 45 mins and 1 1/2 hours! I think what matters is the quality of your work, that is after all what will keep your clients coming back to you. We all work differently. Thats whats so great about this business.
I think you're doing fine, and Ill bet the colours turn out great:wink2:
Its always good to want to improve, but dont beat yourself up in doing it!
