Hi I have recently qualified in gel nail extensions and I have been practising a lot but I'm having trouble getting the hard gel to sit smoothly on the nail! I recently had trouble with the extension cracking so I have started to apply a thicker layer on the nail to create a sufficient structure but just worry it looks messy as the nail may not be as smooth as I would have liked. Is it just a case of practising? Please tell me it's not just me that finds extensions hard ☹️

All enhancements need buffing to remove bumps and lumps no matter how good your application is. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking? Has your tutor said different?

Thicker won't create a stronger enhancement, you need to ensure its better structured for strength. Have you been shown correct apex placement?

When I apply the builder gel and cured it, I wipe off the sticky layer and buff it down and I assumed buffing it would smooth it down but this does not always happen. Do you think it's cause I need to buff it down more? Or maybe i havent done it properly

Gel is super soft and easy to buff, so much so it's very easy to buff too much off by mistake. If it's still lumpy after buffing you need to review your finishing techniques.

Who did you train with as there seems to be some fundamentals missing in your training :(
