I'm a fully qualified nail tech of 6 years but have been concentrating on hairdressing for the last 4 years, been thinking about taking gel nails back up on the side
I have a full gellux kit which I've kept up to date just to do mine or friends and family, I always charged £20 however two girls in my area have just started doing gellux AFTER A ONE DAY COURSE [emoji30] one is charging £15 and one is charging only £8 per set!!!!!
How can I compete with this???? (The girl charging £8 lives 4 houses up from me too [emoji19])

I had opi gelcolor before changing to gellux I made the change to make it more affordable (opi was very expensive at the time) just wondering if I should invest on changing brands?

They might not stay in business though. £8 won't pay a mortgage.

True I wouldn't work for £8! That would be below minimum wage taking out costs of products,

I think charging so low looks unprofessional however they are getting the clients!

Annoying!!

If these new girls near you have only just started AND they only did a quicky course then you'll soon be hearing that their nails fall off 3 days later!

There are lots of salons near me - Some good and using professional systems, some NSS and one that uses non-professional gels.
The non-professional salon has already got a reputation for rubbish nails that fall off and burn skin with wax. This is a small town and word gets round quick.

So take heart these newbies will not survive- financially or by reputation

My advice would be to go for a well known quality brand, charge high and promote in accordance. This will get you faithful clients who want quality and respect their nails.

Thank you for your advice!

I do like gellux as I find it is harder wearing than opi, just wondered if I should change brands if it's gonna be branded as cheap?
I just hope they give up their "hobby" soon!

I'm not prepared to lower myself just to get clients, £8 doesn't even cover my insurance cost for the month [emoji23]

What's scary is I know the girl charging £8 it's insured either [emoji33]

IBD is a lovely range, similar price and lots more colours! Seems to adhere to the nails better too

Ok great I'll take a look thanks
