Hi All,
I am on here to try to help a friend get started. She is under the impression that she really needs a
Mature level 2 VRQ Handcutting. However she has commitments in a current job that means an evening course or home study would be the only way she could make the time happen to do the coarse. She is in the Salisbury area and is currently not finding any available courses. She would travel within realistic limitations to attend a course.
What options would be open for her in order to get started? Are there other courses that she could do instead?
Thanks in advance
Simon

It's not a requirement to have a qualification in hairdressing in the UK to perform hairdressing services.

Saying that, I would never recommend anyone yo start cutting hair without some help! Also she will struggle to find a job without the qualification.

Look on all the local college websites, see if they do evening courses, then get in touch with them. In the mean time get her a block and get her to watch hair up videos on YouTube and get her to recreate them.

Thank you for that, really helpful to know that and will look into block with her as well as courses. She has had a dream since young to do this and has cut a lot of her family’s hair over the years. She did mine recently and I was impressed by her attention to detail. I dont know hair dressing but have been very critical over the years on people doing mine. Her attention to detail was up there with the better professionals that I have had.

She is hoping to set up mobile, is there any other advice you would give?

If she has passion then she is half way there.

I would always suggest working in a salon before going mobile so she has the support of everyone else. It's very lonely being mobile and when it goes wrong you have no one to help.
