What shade are you using?

Any of the nn colours, mainly 6NN or 5NN

When I trained with Goldwell colours a few years ago, I was taught that you should only use the NN on very resistant white hair.
What are you trying to achieve and are you using it on 100% white hair?

Remember that in any base colour is going to be the natural underlying tone of that level. So on a level 8 or 9 you would add violet to achieve a cooler colour. On a 6 or 7 you would add pearl. On a 5 you would add green/ash. Check your quantities to make sure you're adding enough mix tone/intensifier to the mixture. Generally 2inches would equate to 1 grams of tone. I should imagine this isn't enough to have an impact on the tonal quality of the colour.
