I wondering what you all think of this, hairdressers/extensionists and extensionists...... I recently had a nice girl round to fit my own Balmain extensions, she fitted 120 bonds in 1 and half hours, which amazed me, but then promptly told me she couldn't cut them, and if I wanted them cut I'd have to go to a professional. I was gob smacked, luckily I am a professional and could blend them myself. How would Joe Bloggs cope with that?? When we chatted it seems we both trained at the same time, she said she trained to do extensions at Toni and Guy, didnt know they even did courses. I'm starting to think she hasn't really trained, as she was adamant that she wasn't taught to cut extensions!!

Thoughts and comments welcomed x

Was she a hairdresser? Sounds like a bandit to me lol xx

Hiya, on the hair extensions course I went on we were taught to trim and blend in the extensions, however if not a qualified hairdresser we were told we were not to cut the clients natural hair! Not sure why she wasn't able to trim and blend/slice in the extensions that does seem odd. Did you ask to see evidence of her qualification and her insurance certificate? There are plenty of unqualified people fitting extensions these days x

Benefit bandit by the sound if it.

No she wasn't a hairdresser, but I needed someone to fit my Balmain extensions, and she was the only other mobile technician in my area apart from me, so took a chance. She's fitted them a bit odd, but I've only lost 1 in 3 weeks so far! I never dreamt that even a non hairdresser couldn't blend them in, especially as a hairdresser, before training to do extensions I couldn't cut those. I have had a few clients ask me lately if I was able to cut the extensions. People never cease to amaze me!

No I didn't ask to see certificate, it wasn't until she finished I found out she couldn't cut them, think I was in shock x

Fuzion I have a non hairdresser fit my hair for me too!

It angers me when I hear of unqualified people/hairdressers fitting hair extensions, leave it to the professionals!

....especially when they email my clients trying to POACH them!!!!!

xox

Sounds dodgy, I trained with Toni & Guy and they don't do hair extensions :-/ well they didn't when I worked for them.

I don't recall T&G ever doing hair ext either!!

She is just an amateur messer. Stay clear in future and find a proper extensionist who can do the complete job.

I've never heard of Toni and guy training either and I looked about lots when I trained. Siansy another geek did them for me last time, but felt bad about her coming again as she drove 110 mile round trip, we did a service swap and she insisted on coming to me so I didn't have to sort the kids. I'll hassle her next time lol!
Unless there are any Essex based ladies who can sort me out??

Thanks all, you just confirmed what I thought!

when i went to a hair extension course recently to learn a new method there was 11 people learning and there was only 3 of us that were professional hairdressers i asked 1 girl if she was a hairdresser and her reply was "no im just sick of paying to get mines done all the time so thought id just do the course then start doing my own then can charge other people" argggggggg how flipping annoying xx

when i did a balmain hair extension course we got told how to cut and blend very strange lol x

Why is this strange?
I agree that its best to be properly trained in hair to offer the service-especially if the blending is going to be very tricky, but as long as you state that you are trained in the fitting of extensions and the blending and trimming then I dont see a problem. Only take on jobs where you feel comfortable and able and dont say you can do something you cant.

I think what Pretty in Pink is saying is strange, is that the person who fitted my extensions couldn't blend them in, and from all our experiences if you have trained in hair extensions you can cut them, therefore we don't believe she trained at all.

Hi, I worked at T&G for 2 years and we didn't do extensions.. Xx

I am 100% sure T & G do not do hair extension training, they out-source to Racoon (or another reputable training company like Lush us ). I think she should have told you she couldn't cut before she started fitting, because I would just assume that it was included in the price. xx

Sorry to resurrect an older thread but wanted to just add that I am currently looking to train in hair extensions. i am not a hairdresser so am also looking into going to colege to do a NVQ2 in hairdressing so I have the basis to be able to cut and blend the hair.

Balmain training courses are available for non-qualified hairdressers but you receive only certification to state you are qualified in "application only" and they state that you should have a hairdresser to hand to blend the extensions. Other places i have looked at do teach you how to blend the extensions.

i would not, however, wish to cut a clients hair as i am not a hairdresser so am a little offput by the whole thing now as it may mean me trying to move house just to be able to go to college as the college is 30 miles away from me near enough :(

I know what you mean re not wanting to cut the clients hair Brittone05 but you have to blend them sometimes otherwise they can look hideous. In effect you wouldn't even cut the clients hair you'd cut the extensions to make them blend so I don't know what the deal is not teaching you the whole process from beginning to end. I was trained in the application of pre-bonded hair extensions but they wouldnt teach me blending as I had no cutting experience. Blending was part of the coursework and was included in the manual. My course was the same price as those who did have cutting experience and they were shown this and I wasn't?! If they had provided this training, my insurance company would have insured me so I don't understand why they do this at all. So Im supposed to spend hours fitting them and charging a lot of money only to send my client away to have them blended by a hairdresser? As if you would even do that. So until I complete a cutting course I've thrown £550 down the toilet as I wouldnt dream of fittong and doing half a job. Brittone05 I would make sure you research it really well and find a training provider that teaches you the whole process. I wish I'd have done so :o
