I've recently changed hair dressers to the stylist where I work as a beauty therapist and on my first visit, had a full head of highlights. My hairs a natural 8, and had colour build up of about a 4 or 3. The second time i had a full head of highlights again and she said it didn't feel great and didn't take as well and put it down to my cheap shampoo- I knew my shampoo needed changing for good aftercare as it did feel dry and unmanageable. She sold me a moisture from loreal matrix and since then my hair is so disgustingly greasy when I use it. I usually wash my hair every third day. At the moment, once hair is dry it feels greasy at the roots, really gross like sticky greasy. I only put conditioner on the ends, and apart from the cheap one I had used, I usually use good quality or salon shampoos like keratase or Arbonne and my hair feels amazing. She said I was using too much, but didn't ask me any questions at all, and had my hair washed at the salon with a clarifying shampoo under heat and it felt much better (but not completely clean). I've washed it again today and used the tiniest amount, I'm used to using tiny amounts of good quality shampoo, washed and rinsed like mad and now it's dried it's so disgusting at the root.

Another stylist there has said that in her opinion it's not the shampoo, but that the stylist left my toner on for too long. She does leave it a long time, and stylist B said its why It always feels greasy at the root and a bit chewing gummy/dry on the ends. The ends do feel better with this shampoo and conditioner, it's just the roots.

What do you think? I obviously need to try a different shampoo but it's annoying to then have bought this one.

What's the texture of your hair like? And are you doing 1 or 2 shampoos?

I've never heard of colour or toner affecting greasyness? I find with my roots (I have scalp bleach) I get a couple more days out of it than I would do when I have roots, but then I don't know wether I'm being deceived by my hair. I feel I notice it more when I have roots than when it's freshly done because there's no contrast between brown and blonde x

it could also be due to your hair not being used to the shampoo. Cheap shampoos tend to have a lot of sulphates. So your hair would be used to having to produce enough oil to counter that. You also see this with changes in diet, changes of shampoo regime (egample when you stop washing hair everyday and move on to every other day) and changes in health. The other option is that the shampoo may be too heavy.

The texture of the ends is kind of cotton wool but also a bit soft. I was doing two shampoos.

That makes sense with the cheap shampoo. Saying that though, the matrix shampoo has sodium Lauren sulphates in it!

A friend lent me her TIGI shampoo and it has gotten rid of it and it feels so soft! It has made a massive difference so I guess that answers my question!!
