Hey guys!

Just looking for advice and experiences with renting a little room in a gym for beauty therapy?

Have any of you guys found the experience good in terms of client footfall etc?

Many thanks:) x

A salon not far from me opened up in a small gym/ swimming pool complex, right in the middle of nowhere, she's does well there.
Offers Hair and beauty.

Have you seen the place? Is it a fully working membership place with lots of foot traffic or a pay on appointmenthire by the hour kind of gym?

Awww thanks for the feedback, so it's a crossfit gym, around 200 members and counting, just on outskirts of town, but still a lot around it, kind of big shopping area, and has Parking too. Think this might be a great place to check out?!

I've known salons who've done really well and some who don't. It can depend on how co-operative the gym are. Are you allowed to use their reception staff to take bookings? Will they let you put your material in reception/ foyer/ gym areas/ restaurant/ changing room? Do they give you a waiting room? If they have a website, can they include you as a page, or put in a link to your website? Are non-members allowed to use your salon? I've seen gyms where the therapist comes out into the reception to offer free mini treatments as a promotion. Good luck.

It depends on what you offer. I've used beauty at a gym twice. The first time was for waxing. She was above the gym, almost completely separate. She did all her own bookings and was advertised in the gym. It was fine.

Second time is was with a girl who offered the same facials as me. She was doing them half price so I went for a treatment. You had to walk through the gym to get to the treatment room where you could hear the music coming through. The room was very small and slightly claustrophobic. The treatment was great but the noise and gym activity right outside the door was off putting.

I would add that this therapist then moved to different treatment rooms elsewhere and has lost quite a few clients because at her new place they have to pay for parking so they seemed prepared to overlook an unsatisfactory treatment room for free parking.

Not long ago I had a treatment room in a golf club. I thought it would be perfect but I did lose quite a few regulars as they didn't like the fact that men were around.

Hi,
My beauty room is in a crossfit styled gym and I'm really lucky that the owners are amazing at promoting me to their clients and on Facebook.
Free parking outside so they my clients don't have to walk down the high street after a spray tan or a facial and the gym is child friendly so they can pop into me whilst their children play just outside the door.

The only down side is the music, I trained in Spa therapy so the types of treatments I love I can't book in at peak times in the gym because it there is too much background noise.

I manage all of my bookings so there is no confusion.

I do plan to eventually have my own salon but you have to start somewhere, it might not be ideal at times but it's a starting point.

Thanks so much for your reply! Really helpful! I'm going to have a look Monday hopefully, really need somewhere affordable to grow my clients before I move on! Xx

Before signing a contract for a long time, ask for a trial period of 2/3 months, then you can go if it's not working out
