Hi hair geeks,

Needing help with finding a shampoo and conditioner for oily hair.

I was using a teetree one but I've got really bad skin on my hands from eczema / dermatitis and get blisters so teetree was killing my hands.

Can anyone recommend anything that's won't also kill my hands?!

Thanks x

Have you asked your hairdresser for any recommendations as they will be able to see and feel the hair and will be better placed to diagnose whether the problem is caused by frequency of washing, technique or shampoo or whether it might be medical and need referring to a specialist?

If you use a shampoo with strong detergents, it will strip the natural oils (that we all need) from your scalp and your scalp will work harder to replace the oil, thus making you hair seem overly greasy.

How often do you wash your hair?
Can you try going about 4 days between shampoos for a couple of weeks to give your scalp a wee break?

Do you buy salon quality shampoo or high street products? Good salon brands contain detergents that are less harsh compared to the generic type products available on the high street. (Joico, Paul Mitchell, Redken, Kerastase, etc. )

Finally, if you suffer from skin issues too, have you considered your diet as some foods affect some people quite noticeably. I like to limit my intake of pasteurised cow's milk, for instance.

I did and she recommended teetree stuff, we were also trying to get red out my hair! I've not been back to the salon recently (i changed jobs)

I tend to wash my hair every 2 or 3 days, try to leave it as long as possible.

I've just been buying high street stuff, but might have a look in capital when I'm next there.

Yes I'm in the process for trying to figure out the skin issues and back up the hospital next week for some more tests.

Thanks for the help and advice. Will get booked back into a hairdresser and try to have a more in depth discussion ☺ and wash less and get a better shampoo! X
