My client wanted the chrome effect look and I did everything I was told and got a non cleansing top coat and used this before I applied the chrome powder. It has only taken to certain parts of the nail and I'm not too sure why this would of happened.

I now need to fix the problem, but would I have to start from scratch and remove it all or can I buff off the top layer and reapply the main colour?

Advice would be much appreciated

If you're short on time try your regular topcoat and dry wipe with a lint free wipe, it leaves just enough of a tackiness for the chrome to adhere to.
Also, rub the chrome in and then any patches pat the chrome over these and then rub to make it smooth and mirror effect.

HTH!

I did that and she sent me a picture today showing the chrome going patchy! She's coming back on Sunday but I don't really have the time to soak off and reapply again

Was it wearing off or actually becoming patchy? Is this over gel polish or extensions?

Over extensions I would just file off the colour and start again. Shouldn't take you too long to do this.
Over gel polish I would gently buff the top coat slightly making sure to not remove any colour and then re-apply another layer of top coat so it it not too thick. Apply the chrome and then double top coat.

If it's patchy as in fading and you are applying enough product and ensuring you're covering the whole nail to be honest I don't know what to suggest. Never heard of it fading. Hopefully someone else can be of more help :)

Its over the gel polish and just seems to have come away so you can see the underneath colour. I will try the buffing and reapplying and if not have to do a new set, but thanks for your help :)

This happened to me the first time and I wrote to the company that I purchased my top coat and chrome from and they said it was because i cured the top coat a few seconds too long in my led. I tried again at like 8 seconds as opposed to the 15 I originally tried and the chrome took to the top coat much better. The first time I did It patchy I just put another coat right over and it came out fine. Without having to start over.
