Hello everyone! I work in a spa in central london and we specialise in facials & body massage, so we hardly get any wax clients. We use the phd system, which to be honest im not a great fan of the wax. Whenever i have a lady booked in for a bikini wax i tend to get a bit of bruising (like a love bite) on the part by the join to the leg and the side, but the 'v' part, if u like, is ok. I really do stretch the skin and reheat the wax with my hands too! I really need some help and advice :) thank you.x.

Perhaps do small sections at a time as well as the stretching.

This is what i wuld suggest. Little sections, very tight pull. Good Luck!

Thank u ladies!! Also how would u have the position of the couch? I have it upright, perhaps i should have it flat?! Xxx

I always lay it as flat as the client can tollerate as you get a better stretch that way

I use hot wax for bikini these days but when I used my PHD the Trainer for PHD has said to get the client to drop the leg on the side you are working off of the couch, so its hanging down foot toward the floor, that gives a great stretch and I still use that method even now, also get the client to press down and pull away on the pubic mound to get the stretch the other way, gives them something to concentrate on ! kx

Just a thought, maybe you are trying to wax around a curve. Do the lower bit, stretching the skin out and down well, then the upper bit stretching up and out Get the client to support the skin on their pubic mound too if it's not a taught enough, this can help. Also a thin layer of oil to keep the skin slightly lubricated. Yes, put the couch flat.

I agree with weezie...the inner leg sections can be prone to bruising if the skin isnt stretched enough due to the skin being softer and sometimes "looser" in that area. Make sure you get your client to position the leg so that you can stretch the skin efficient enough and ask her to help stretching to ensure its tight enough.
Make sure you pull paralell tothe skin and not up into the air so that you remove the wax / strip fully against the hair growth and as close to the skin as possible....if its longer strips make sure you support the skin in between and if its a sensitive clients i would definitely recomment a non strip wax as its designed for those areas and will generally result in better waxing results and more comfort for the client...

hth:hug:

I lie them 45 degrees back. They are more relaxed and can't see what you are doing. I have used Phd for 10 years but have decided to give up on the system as its not pulling the hairs out. I have just done a hot wax course and oh my what a difference. I will never use strip wax on the bikini again. It is much more comfortable for the client as it doesn't stick to the skin. Good luck x

Have the client lie flat as this automatically stretches the area. The only time I raise my couch a bit is to do a pregnant client.
I trained with PHD and hated it! The wax doesn't stay at a constant temperature as the tubes are in and out of the heater.
If you're new to waxing then it's very easy to be concentrating so much on a bikini wax that, you can easily have the tube out of the heater for too long and then the wax is too cool. I think most of the time more damage is done with too cold wax than too hot wax.
Also when you are new to waxing then sometimes therapists are a bit unsure where to put their hands. They may be a bit scared to touch 'there' and so sometimes don't get a good enough stretch as a result.
So: couch flat, wax at the correct temperature, small sections, no going round corners, good stretch and just get your hands right in there.
When you gain more confidence it will be like riding a bike!

Awwww thank you soooo much hunnys!! :) thats really really helped! Great tips! Im def gunna use them all! Ur right i think i wax around on the curve so ill remember not to do so! Unfortunately my spa only offers the phd  which is soo annoying as id prefer to use hot wax really. Its interesting how so many ppl dislike the phd system! Im not a big fan either! Many many thanks everyone i feel soo much better! Xxxxxxx

I think PHD is expensive too! Maybe you should mention that to your salon-lol
The heads can get clogged up and then you have to replace half way through a treatment when you should only be using one head per client.
You always end up with a bit of wax in the end of the tube that ends up getting thrown away.
I think a lot of people think it is cost effective but it isn't.
If you get non-strip wax then your clients will definitely prefer it and you will get more recommendations. Tell your salon owner that!
