Hi,

I wonder if any colour experts might give me a little advise. I am on this site because I'm a nail technician however I need some hair advice if that's ok.

I have had my hair coloured by a hairdresser for a few years now and she has moved away. I have been having the Loreal diacolour mahogany red for a couple of years and would like to eventually change so i can have some blonde highlights.

My friend is a hairdresser and works in a saloon which uses the wella products, she said we need to strip most of the red out so she done a bleach bath which lighted the hair but it is still very red. She's taken some test peices and tested a few but the hair keeps coming up an orangey colour when she tries to lighten it.

Because loreal is the brand of colour that has been mainly used on my hair should we consider trying to gradually lighten the hair using loreal, would this help?

I'm hoping to get to a stage in the future where I could have some blonde high lights across the t-section.

If anyone could pass on a little knowledge an advise that would be great.

Please dont think im being rude but reading through some of the other posts please can I only get colour advise and not an assassination of me or my friends work, again I hope this dosen't offend.

Thanks for reading, really appreciate it

You might have to use color remover instead of lightener in the desired areas so the color won't be so orange.
What's your natural hair color?

You'd need to cleanse the hair again and get rid if a little more mahogany. Depending on your natural colour.... Unless your quite blonde you will find the lightening gives an orangey tinge. This would be where you choose a new base shade..you're hairdresser friend will be able to pick a tone to neutralise any unwanted brassiness.... I'd suggest a semi permenant .Then your tbar on top. As long as you are aware it's a bit of a work in progress and do some repairing treatments you'll have it the way you want soon

Hi pink, thank or the reply, the orangey still red tone is even all over and my natural hair colour is brown which goes a bit mousey in the summer because of the sun.

The colour I am left with at the moment is ok, it's ll even and coppery but I couldn't live with the carrot colour the test peice went!

I have been using a loreal shampoo that cleans the hair of product etc a week before to help.

Hi oh my, thank you for your reply, that's good news that I will get it how I want eventually. I am quite happy to take the time and do it slowly while nourishing and repairing the hair.

Would you advise to switch back to loreal products ( what the other lady has been using on my hair ) or for my friend to continue with wella?

My hair has been very stubborn, and clearly likes being a redhead!!!
