Hey guys, am in some desperate need of advice from you proffesionals!
I am 19 years old and am in my last year of free education here in the UK and am on a NVQ 3 Beauty Therapy (massage route) course.
Basically the college made a huge mistake, when I applied for the course I didn't know you had to have completed your NVQ 2 in Beauty Therapy first to then specialise in the NVQ 3 Beauty Therapy Massage Route (this includes tanning with St Tropez, Gelish Nails, Inch Weight Loss wrap treatment and Spa treatments)
Anyway, I eventually became aware that the girls around me had completed their NVQ 2 and I couldn't carry out manicures, waxing, pedicures and facials on the public as I have not been proffesionally trained in the NVQ 2 and when I asked about this I was told i somehow slipped through their college system and had to keep it a deep secret as they could possibly get in trouble for it. So I have kept quiet but am finding the course fast pased as well as the girls carrying out manicures etc on the public in client sessions I cant do this =(

Now to the question.. Lets face it, as horrible and upsetting as it will be.. Is their really any point of me doing this course!? I mean can I get a Spa job as a massage therapist without my NVQ 2.. Will anyone take me on without nail, waxing and facial experience? Lets be honest here..

I feel like theyre trying to keep me 'sweet' so I dont quit and let it come to light theyve wasted my time and free year of education on a HUGE mistake. But if I can get a job without the NVQ 2 would be great but reality is, can I?

ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING ANY ADVICE TOO!?
Thanks therapists =)

Hi

I'm sorry to hear you feel like you have wasted a year on training, but surely you could do seperate courses in manicure, pedicure etc to make up the units you missed with not doing the NVQ 2.
Maybe even asking you lecturers if they could help you with finiding some night courses or short term courses, maybe even see if ILA would fund those courses.

I think this is disgraceful! (not you, babe, the college). If they want you to keep quiet about this, as I am sure they do, I would DEMAND that they put you on the next level 2 course FREE OF CHARGE! You must really be struggling with the A&P side of the course without any underpinning knowledge as going into L3 blind must be a nightmare! Ensure you get the extra support from your tutors that you must need, and do not let this rest.

As a salon owner (others will have different opinions tho), level 2 treatments are my bread and butter, and L3 are the "add ons", so I would defo not take on a therapist that cannot manicure, do facials, wax .....etc.

As another poster said, you could do individual courses for these, but why should you when the college has messed this up sooooooo badly.

You might want to finish your L3 before you ask for free L2 just in case they strike you off L3 before you finish. Once you qualify, threaten them with all sorts to get your free L2 - ie informing their exam board .........

ps I am an assessor for nvq's and cant understand how they were even able to register you for L3 without L2 - stick with it and get your L2 free.

hth and good luck - If you can get through L3 blind, you will make a superb therapist one day. xxxxxxx

Hi Elaine, just came across this post as was researching on how to become an assessor. Do you mind giving me more information on this. I am in Kent if this helps?
Many thanks Ola

Hi, Just thought I would ask how things are going? Did you finish lv3? But most importantly did you manage to get them to put you on to level 2 for free?
I hope everything has worked out for you hun x:Love:
