I am a student so not clear with how to achieve colours I have a girl with yellowy blonde hair who wants to be more white blonde her friend has put off the shelf something or other on her hair god knows what but its not taken. Im sure I heard at college that you can do something to take away yellowy tones rather than just put more bleach on hair help needed please

Depends on various things..... Is it pale yellow, yellow or yellow/orange? Is the colour even? How's the condition? ;)

not simple then lol dunno about condition only seen pic at mo friend of a friend but its not pale yellow and not orangy

I could explain but you might get confused but I’ll give it a go. Ok so you have undertones in the hair, and you have primary and secondary colours, some that compliment and some that don’t, so for a yellow base, a violet toner would be needed, for a orangey base a blue toner would be needed to neutralize the yellow/orange tones present. I think you need to go and ask your tutor for help on this one and he/she will be able to explain more :) colorwheel.jpg this is the colour wheel, its simple, easy and very effective, it will now become your best friend haha good luck :D

That colour wheel doesn't relate to hair colour...in fact it isn't a wheel :/

Ofc it doesnt relate to hair! I was using it simply to show how undertones work.

Haha I wasn't aware of a 'cyan' undertone in hair...if you insist on posting advice so someone that is training, can you please not mislead or confuse them!
That colour 'wheel' doesn't even have orange on it so how is that going to help?

Yeah point taken, not the best one to show my mistake, I was wrong. This one is the correct one as you will see. wheel.jpgBtw hows the veiw up there from your high horse? :)

thanks for all the "helpful" comments lol yeah I remember something about that

High horse? I don't think that's appropriate.,,

I use this forum to give advice, if I can and to ask for advice when I need it.

If I have a valid answer to someone's post I'll give it, if I dont I wont post...this being an exception as I saw false advice being given.

Please think about your post and make sure you're confident it's correct to prevent misleading people in future...Thanks

Now now boys! Lol x

If yellow use violet, so lemme think

Wella koleston: 10/16, 9/16, 10/96
Wella colour touch: /86, 9/16
Wella colour fresh: 0/6
Matrix(I heard this was good but I've never used matrix):SPV
loreal Luo: po2

:) a good mix for a soft blonde in wella is col touch 9/73+9/16 (equal parts)+ 1.9%(used it today proper gorgeous) and it goes really even on bleached hair it looks abit pinky when it's developing and also wet, but when it's dry god it's beaut :)

Bbh, perry and blue rinse are great with colours, the "wheel" you just showed again is a triangle, also the centre states brown/black which it's correct, the centre should be neutral i.e there is equal parts of the opposite ends of the spectrum to visually neutralise te tones or that the tones are naturally missing resulting in neutral. The below image would be more correct without going to get my colour charts and take a picture from that.

Anyway, we are here to work together and give clients the best service possible by asking advice, giving advice and generally learning so that we need not have to ask.
Wrong advice would jeopardise our industry and the clients hair as well as possibly health.

Thank you xoxo

On to you now after the rant. If its only a slight yellow colour then tell her to try pro.voke twice weekly violet shampoo, and speak to your tutor.
If you are level 1 don't attempt to correct further than using semi toners such as crazy colours, without college/ trainers supervision xoxo
