I'm hoping someone can advice me what to do with my nails.

I'm a middle aged woman in her early 40s and my nails have started to lift from the nail beds. I've had no trauma to the nails, don't bite (although did for many years) and don't wear nail polish or acrylics (had a bad experience a few years ago which left me with a permanent split in my thumb nail).

I have always had lots of vertical ridges on my nails but these ridges are becoming more pronounced as I get older.

I have visited a couple of nail salons and was only offered more acrylics which i'm a littler nervous in trying again, especially as my nails are in such bad condition.

Thanks in anticipation

Hi and thanks for your question.

The condition of your nails is a window to the state of your general health. If onycholysis (nails de-bonding from the nail bed) starts happening for no discernible reason then you need to visit your GP and have him check you over.

Nail technicians are not diagnosticians and I for one would not begin to diagnose your problem over the internet sight unseen. This is a job for your GP who can take a good look at your nails in person and advise you.
