Highlights to balayage

So my client normally has highlights she on a base 7-6 she now wants balayage she only has 1inch of her natural hair root she would love a darker root about 4 inches further down then blended down to mid length ends with different shades running through any ideas on how I’m going to achieve this ?? Help !!

Do some highlights of say, 8 with 9% on the roots and, deposit only on the ends of that section. Then rinse, and apply a root blend draffing it down, and maybe tone the m.l.e if needed.

I would do a root stretch of a 5/6 and feather into her highlights, maybe take the root colour through some of the hair by brushing small sections. If she wants the balayage lightener then go in with lightener and feather upwards and finish with a toner. A lot of my clients who have had previous highlights have switched to balayage this way.
