Holographic tape

Hi all,
Can anyone advise me on the best way to use holographic tape.
I tried it with gels and was fine going on, I sealed it on with 2 or 3 layers of topcoat and my client went swimming the day after and the tape just curled up and came off. I don't understand why. I made sure I got a good seal around the edges. It's really put me off using it again.
