Hi guys
hoping you can help me out here.I run a hairdressing salon on a leasehold, the current lease is due to expire next year and i dont want to renew it for various reasons the main one being is that i am responsible for all the repairs and maintenance and the place is falling to bits!
i have a large garage under my house that was once used for an office,it was heating and electricity and am seriously considering converting it to a salon,we have parking so that wouldent be a problem and if i get out when the lease runs out i can take all my fixtures, fittings and equipment.
The problem is can i havent a clue how to go about getting permission to do this and how would i go about it? if anyone has done this sort of thing themselves i would love to know.
Also the waste is a problem as i would have to get some serious plumbing done so the waste water has somewhere to go.
What do you guys think???

If you contact the planning department at your local council and they should give you all the information you need.

I also work from home and one thing I would say is that make sure you have understanding neighbours as some can get very funny about people coming and going. Luckily I only work part time and all of my neighbours are at work when I have clients so its never been a problem but there was a therapist on here that had terrible problems with her neighbour, you might be able to find the thread if you do a search.

Good luck with everything, sorry I can't be more help but I did have to convert anything as such, I just work from my spare bedroom.

Bombini has given some sound advice. All else I would like to add is perhaps get a quote for the waste water to be installed, especially as you're a hairdresser so it is something that you can't get by without.

I had been quoted £5,000 to install waste water to my home salon at the bottom of my garden (getting the water supply down there was only £100, I just can't get the waste away!) as I only use water for pedicures I can get away with it but you can't wash hair over a bucket!

X

hey thanks guys

your advice was most helpful, yeah i kind of thought the waste water might be a bit of a problem, might be a temporary solution as you can get portable basins that come with a waste water tank,it might mean a bit of running around to empty it but in the beginning it might be ok.
And the neighbours yeah i will speak to them luckily we get on great with them so it shouldent be a problem and as it will be mostly daytime hopefully they wont notice much.
Cheers for the tips
