So I see an ad on Facebook today from someone who is untrained and unqualified. Surely she has no insurance then? How can this be right when we have paid so much for our courses. Makes me a little angry

Part of life I am afraid .

No she will not get insurance but a lot of people do not care about that ........Until something goes wrong with their nails that is !!!!

The hard facts are that apart from a few London boroughs there is NO legal requirement within the UK to be trained to offer this service and , someone correct me if I am wrong - I believe the same applys to the Hairdressing sector .

So technically she is not doing anything 'wrong ' as such in the eyes of the law .

There will always be people around like this . All you can do is concentrate on your own business and never let your professional standards slip as this is what will set you apart from people like this

We now have licensing, but it means 'Jack sh*t.........
£400 per year to paint nails..... ....
but they will not be requiring mobile techs have one! o_O
Not exactly fair, as they are often the ones asking silly money for 'Shellac', making salons charging more look outrageously expensive.

I can't see the pic what was it

Was just a Facebook post where someone was advertising nail services saying that she was self taught

I understand the frustration but i really dislike the negativity on here.

You have to find your niche and offer a better experience/product. Create something special and you will appeal to a completely different market to the £5 shellac brigade.

Cream rises to the top!!

If you are better you can charge more. If she isn't good she wont have repeat custom and she'll run out of Clients.

Also don't underestimate the self taught! My Aunty was self taught, she fell into nails and there wasn't the training 40+ years ago, along the way she adapted to new products and techniques, again all self taught, and she was one of the best nail tech I have ever seen and went on to become an educator.

I have also seen techs with their certificate and their work screamed that they had done a passable set of nails once for an assessment!

Don't fret about others shortcomings, concentrate on your assets.
